Marian, a converter in Indianapolis, had a customer assembling automotive shift knobs. Double-sided adhesive was used to assemble a plastic ornament onto the knob  in 3 dimensions. The adhesive consistency was very tacky. Furthermore the customer required short cycle time within a rather limited budget.
AccuPlace solved the customerÂs requirements with a model 3065 configured with a rotary table to meet cycle time and budget. The top liner is removed automatically and the exposed adhesive is presented to the placement actuator. The silicone material chosen for the end of arm tooling guarantees the adhesive is completely transferred to the target part. The 3-dimensional application is ensured by the AccuPlace profiler chuck: After the component is peeled and placed horizontally, a roller extends from the chuck and applies the adhesive in vertical direction. One operator can load / unload the rotary table and place the ornament onto the adhesive.
AccuPlace provides standardized solutions for automated assembly of adhesive components. We have more than 150 man-years of experience solving thousands of adhesive placement applications in the mobile communications, computer & peripherals, automotive, industrial, and medical device market segments worldwide.
