ÂSelecting maintenance management software can be a difficult, complicated task  but it doesnÂt have to be, says Jason Jantzi, creator of Maintenance-Management- Now.com. ÂWhen companies research CMMS options, they are often overwhelmed by the complex, high-end software solutions which claim to do the job they need. These would-be customers then
try out a few demoÂs, cross their fingers and sign the check.
More often than not, this begins a long period of misery as they try to adjust their business practices to suit their new software. This is a recipe for disaster.Â
But how can this complex job become easier? According to Jantzi, there are a number of simple steps that every company can take to ensure that their software choice will work in their business.
ÂWhen evaluating different options for maintenance management software, says Jantzi, Âthe key is to level the playing field. Prioritize the key features you must have, and separate them from the less critical nice-to-have features. Then compare each option based on this objective scorecard. Include such elements as how much your personnel will have to change their operations to suit the software. Before long, you will have a much clearer picture of which solution will be best for you.Â
According to Jantzi, no maintenance management software program should be purchased until all the options have been compared in this way. This is where many people falter, because the complexity of the software often forces them into an under-informed decision. The scorecard approach reduces that problem considerably.
