CSU Rams Cycling Team 5th at Collegiate Mountain Bike National Championships

The Rams Cycling Team had another successful year at the Collegiate Mountainbike National Championships in Seven Springs, PA, finishing 5th overall.

(PRWEB) December 5, 2004 -- The Rams Cycling Team had another successful year at the Collegiate Mountainbike National Championships in Seven Springs, PA, finishing 5th overall. The overall team omnium standings were as follows:

1st Fort Lewis College (Colorado)
2nd CU Boulder (Colorado)
3rd Univ of Vermont (Vermont)
4th Mesa State College (Colorado)
5th Rams Cycling - Colorado State University (Colorado)

Colorado schools dominated the entire weekend, taking 4 of the top five spots. Oddly enough, this was the same team omnium podium as last year. It rained a lot of the time we were there, so It was a muddy, muddy weekend!

The weekend started out with the Short Track event where Aaron Potts (CSU) got the whole shot but somehow managed to break a seatpost and had to drop out of the race. On the women's side however, Sarah Germundson managed to round out the top 10!

The next event for us was a sloppy and muddy dual slalom race. We had three qualifiers in this race. Lucy Shoemaker, Pete Hutson and Kevin Sudderth. They finished 5th, 9th and 17th respectively. Congrats to them! We had a very good downhill/slalom team this year.

The Cross Country event was ruthless! There was so much mud out there that everyone's bikes were getting covered in mud, gears were sticking and derailleurs were breaking. We were lucky to have all of our racers finish the race. Aaron Potts was our best men's finisher at 20th place. They made the men race 4 laps, underestimating the time it would take to do each lap. The winner finished the race in over two and a half hours. Thankfully they shortened the women's race from 3 to 2 laps.

Despite our tough time at the Cross Country, the most heavily weighted event for team points, we went into the final downhill event in 4th place overall. Everyone put in a great race down the course. On the women's side, we took 11th (Lucy Shoemaker) and 19th (Sarah Germundson). The men also finished strong with a 7th place (Pete Hutson), 13th place (Freshman, Kevin Sudderth) and 15th place (our President of the Rams Cycling Team, Ken deAlmeida. Congratulations to everyone.

A special thanks to our sponsors and partners. Thank you for your support and helping to make this team one of the best in the nation!!
