Free E-Mail Blacklist Service Passes 1 Trillion Query Mark for 2004

McFadden Associates is pleased to announce that its public unsolicited e-mail (SPAM) filtering database (http://bl.csma.biz/) has achieved the 1 TRILLION query mark for 2004, making it one of the Internets most popular sources for such information. Used every day by firms all over the world to check over 2.5 BILLION incoming e-mails against known SPAM sources, it reports whether the sender has sent others junk mail recently. Based on this, approximately 15% of e-mail is instantly rejected.

Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) December 6, 2004 -- While McFadden Associates sells and manages commercial e-mail filtering systems, it provides the blacklist service at no cost for individuals and system administrators. Were happy to do out part to help eliminate junk e-mail," said Corey McFadden, Managing Partner.

During the course of the last several years, unsolicited e-mail has grown as a problem despite the improvement of Spam filtering software and federal legislation designed to criminalize tactics common to their senders. Junk e-mail now accounts for over 75% of all mail traffic on the Internet and a study conducted earlier this year of 82 Fortune 500 Companies estimates annual costs to American businesses at over $2,000 per employee," continued Mr. McFadden, these costs take the form of wasted time reading messages, bandwidth charges, and the cost to physically store messages on servers and workstations. The firms we deal with no longer wish to shoulder the cost of receiving these messages or cleaning up virus infections. Weve been asked to deliver solutions that meet this need." Among McFadden Associates clients are publicly traded firms and Internet providers.

Unsolicited e-mail advertisements widely known as SPAM have plagued Internet users since the mid-1990s when the Internets e-mail infrastructure resembled a close-knit community where trust wasnt an issue. E-mail was relayed freely without suspicion via any server regardless of a senders location. In addition, e-mail header information, including data about the sender and their location, was easily forged.

Over the last several years, great strides have been made in combating unsolicited e-mail advertisements, including last years passage of the CAN-SPAM Law-which criminalizes certain types of junk e-mail-and has begun to see its first prosecutions.

The blacklist service provided via http://bl.csma.biz/ is known as an RBL, or Real-time Blackhole List. System administrators configure their mail servers, whether they be Microsoft Exchange, Unix Sendmail, or other software, to check incoming e-mail against RBL lists to deny delivery of messages originating from known spam sources. This usually happens unbeknownst to most users. Some of the most popular RBL services include The Spamhaus Project, SPEWS, SpamCop, and MAPS.

McFadden Associates offers several e-mail filtering products and services for both service providers and end-user firms, including appliances" designed to protect an organization at its Internet gateway and off-site e-mail filtering and backup solutions. These solutions eliminate better than 95% of all junk e-mail and remove all known e-mail viruses.

McFadden Associates is a specialized consulting firm offering independent strategic advice on technology spending and operations, network and telecommunications infrastructure, enterprise software, and other technology investments. From its offices in Pennsylvania it operates nationally, serving firms throughout the United States.
