The awards recognise overall excellence in all aspects of construction practice and the greatest architectural distinction. The Best Practice award honours the project which best involves processes adopted to understand and meet client needs, supports team working throughout, and maintains a continuous drive for improvement.
The award was given to the Raines Court Apartments in London, which was developed by Peabody Trust, manufactured by Yorkon and designed by Allford Hall Monaghan Morris. The main contractors were Wates Construction.
Commenting on the award, Keith Blanshard, Director and General Manager of Yorkon, said, ÂThe award is a major accomplishment for everyone involved in this pioneering project. The scheme was another industry first for the client, and for Yorkon, and demonstrates just what can be achieved with good design and the use of modular building construction methods.Â
ÂAs this award shows, off-site building is not only faster, more efficient and better quality but it can produce really exciting, award-winning architecture.Â
Yorkon continues to break new ground in every sector using modular buildings. Currently under construction in Somerset is a £9.2m independent treatment centre  the UKÂs first to be built off-site and YorkonÂs largest healthcare project.
Yorkon has also launched an exemplar design for new school buildings in partnership with Cartwright Pickard Architects. The plans, which are in response to the GovernmentÂs Building Schools for the Future initiative, introduce fresh, imaginative ideas to help schools and education authorities develop their vision and requirements for the creation of stimulating learning environments that fit specific local needs. The concept can be applied to extensions as well as complete new schools and for both primary and secondary facilities.

YorkonÂs award-winning modular building system is an efficient alternative to traditional site-based construction. It involves the manufacture of steel-framed modules in a factory environment, using production line technology, whilst the foundation works are completed on site. The modular building is then delivered to site by road where they are craned into position in just a few days ready for fitting out.
