The High Rankings Forum http://www.highrankings.com/forum/ opened its virtual doors in July of 2003 as a way to help Webmasters and SEO's learn long-term strategies for making their sites be the best they can be for their users and the search engines. This past Friday, a mere 16 months later, forum moderators and members celebrated the registration of their 5000th member.

Owner and co-administrator Jill Whalen attributes the popularity of the forum to the no-nonsense answers she and her moderators are quick to provide, as well as to the high level of forum moderation that takes place. "Great forums have moderators who are omnipresent. Our moderators are always on duty and are quick to remove inappropriate threads and flames," said Whalen. "Plus, we carefully choose moderators who we know will post advice that is consistent across the board in order to keep newbie confusion to a minimum." Whalen is known for her common sense approach to SEO, which she also writes about in her popular weekly e-mail newsletter, the High Rankings Advisor: http://www.highrankings.com/advisor.htm.

Members of the forum celebrated the registration of their 5000th member in a "pub" thread full of congratulations and virtual toasts. Popular forum moderator "OldWelshGuy" professed, "What we have created here is not so much a forum, as an online family." Forum administrator Scottie Claiborne believes that the forum's success is due in part to the numerous posts aimed at improving a site’s overall business strategy, not just its search engine rankings. Forum members often receive answers to questions about getting started with Web marketing, PPC campaigns, HTML coding, surviving a Google update and more. Members also discuss industry events and happenings in order to keep up with the ever-changing search marketing landscape.

The High Rankings forum averages 200-300 registered member visits each day, plus many more non-member visitors who regularly read the threads. They stop by for SEM news, advice, and friendly banter with like-minded individuals.

Twice a year, Whalen and a number of long-time forum moderators hold a search engine marketing seminar in different locations across the US. The next seminar is in the planning stages and is scheduled for April 7th and 8th in the Seattle area. Issues often brought up in the High Rankings forum will be discussed and expanded on during the first day of presentations as well as during the second day hands-on workshops.
