Ty Inc., creator of the popular Beanie Babies, has joined forces with the American Volunteer Corps, a foundation project of the American Health Association.

Ty has pledged 10,000 Beanie Babies towards their efforts to collect over 25,000 Teddy Bears, dolls and stuffed animals for the Orphans of War Campaign in Iraq.

"Our heart goes out to the Iraqi people, especially the children," said Ty Warner, Chairman and Founder of Ty Inc. "We have seen the smiles that a cuddly bear can bring to a child. We hope our Beanies can bring some joy to these little ones that have lived through much sorrow."

"These Teddy Bears are symbols of that love, compassion and hope of the American people for a better tomorrow", said retired Army Reserve Lt. Colonel Bob Weinstein, Chairman for the Orphans of War Campaign and a member of the American Health Association. "We thank Ty Inc for their generous support on this mission of compassion. Ty Inc exemplifies the spirit of what America is all about, a sincere desire to help the Iraqi people and address their legitimate needs."

"It makes sense to build on the generosity of the Americans and attempt to give the orphans of Iraq a sense of hope and love that there is a better future ahead," said Rob Gordon, Executive Director of American Health Association. "We are very thankful for the generous support of Ty Inc."

The last two decades in Iraq's history have brought civil war with the Kurds, conflicts with neighboring Iran, the invasion of Kuwait, the Gulf War and the aftermath of international sanctions. Now, the American liberation and the resultant insurgency or civil war has left thousands of innocent babies and tots without mothers and fathers. "While Teddy Bears can't win the war, it could win the hearts with some kindness for those left orphaned by the liberation of Iraq" said Weinstein.

The American Health Association, an award winning non-profit community service organization, through its "American Volunteer Corps" launched what could become America's largest Teddy Bear campaign as it began collecting Teddy Bears, dolls and stuffed animals for the Orphans of War Campaign in Iraq.

To give a new or recycled Teddy Bear, doll or stuffed animals, simply drop them off at any Colonial Bank in Palm Beach County. For those who want to contribute to the fund that is supporting this cause, please write checks to AHA, 3200 N. Federal Highway, Boca Raton, FL. 33431. Contributions are tax deductible.
