Kanye West might not be returning to the American Music Awards, but he certainly wonÂt be unhappy with the 10 nominations he received for the Second Annual GV Music & Fashion Awards.
Groovevolt.com, one of the Internet's leading music sites, announced the nominees Monday for its Second Annual GV Music & Fashion Awards. Voting for the awards will take place at Groovevolt.com beginning December 14 and the winners will be announced on February 11, 2005.
The 98 artists received at least one nomination were led by West who
garnered a record 10 GV Music Award nods including Album of the Year
(College Dropout), Song of the Year and Video of the Year (ÂJesus WalksÂ) and Best New Artist. Usher followed with eight nominations, Jadakiss took home five nominations, and four artists  Britney Spears, Franz Ferdinand, OutKast, and Jay-Z  each earned four nominations. A complete list of nominees can be found at Groovevolt.com.
"Kanye West has been an explosive force on the music scene in the past year and these nominations certainly showcase the impact that he has made on the music industry," Groovevolt.com Editor-in-Chief Chauncy Jackson said, adding "I believe that our readers will honor those most deserving of acclaim and respect for their contribution to music in 2004."
Music fans who log onto Groovevolt.com from December 14 to February 11, 2005, will be able to vote, in more than 30 categories, for their favorite rock, hip-hop, and pop artists, as well as for their favorite movie soundtrack, deep cuts, and most fashionable artists. "The success of the nomination process last year was very gratifying," Jackson said. "We expect that success to continue this year. The nominees are a diverse bunch, and the list includes several surprises from lesser-known artists."
Nominees were chosen from artists whose albums were released from September 1, 2003 to August 31, 2004. Singles released during that time period are eligible, even if the albums from which the song came were not yet released.
To launch Groovevolt.com's 2004 Music and Fashion Awards, Groovevolt linked with Southpole to throw a lavish event in New York City at Cielo on December 1, 2004. "The 2004 Music and Fashion Awards Nominees Affair was a total success," Jackson said. "These are the moments that are well spent thanking the people behind the scenes and those who are often overlooked."
