Citadel Broadcasting to Adopt Digital Music Distribution System Promo Only MPE in All U.S. Market Radio Stations

Digital Distribution Service, Promo Only MPE (Music Protected by Encryption), announces Citadel Broadcasting to adopt the MPE service. Additionally 1,200 radio station users are onboard across the United States.

Orlando, FL (PRWEB) December 8, 2004 -- Promo Only announced today that its proprietary anti-piracy and digital distribution system, Promo Only MPE (Music Protected by Encryption) will be utilized by Citadel Broadcasting for use in all of its stations across the country. Citadel is the 6th largest broadcaster in the U.S., owning and operating 155 FM and 58 AM radio stations in 46 markets. Additionally the company announced that Promo Only MPE has surpassed 1,200 users signed-on to the service. Promo Only MPE, which is free to radio, launched on October 6th, 2004 at the NAB Radio Show in San Diego and has distributed in excess of 100 tracks from over 30 labels. It has received an overwhelming reception from both the radio and music industry.

Promo Only MPE (developed by technology partner Destiny Media Technologies Inc.) has been developed to help the music industry combat the ongoing issue of piracy and additionally gain the benefits of digital technology - quicker distribution and reduced costs. Industry leader Universal Music Group (UMG) has been utilizing the service since its launch and has distributed over 70 tracks to radio via Promo Only MPE thus far. UMG was also instrumental in assisting Promo Only in custom-tailoring the system to meet the needs of radio and the music industry.

"The Promo Only MPE system is proving to be one of the strongest, most effective digital delivery systems on the market," said Jonathan Bender, Vice President, Asset Management, UMG. "The acceptance by radio and the number of users onboard underscores the importance of this emerging technology."

"This is a huge milestone for Promo Only MPE., said Dean Ernst, Director of the MPE Project. To have Citadel Broadcasting give us their approval, in addition to surpassing 1,200 users online in just over a month and a half, is a really encouraging sign that MPE will become the industry standard. It's a testament to the quality of the system and its ease of use that this many stations and users have come onboard in such a short time.

Clear Channel Communications was one of the initial radio groups to approve the system, and also provided Promo Only input into how to enhance the software. Clear Channel has made Promo Only MPE available to all of its stations across the country as well.

"Clear Channel Radio is always striving to provide the best content to our listeners and the most efficient methods of delivery to our stations," said Rob Speicher, Director of Digital Audio Systems with Clear Channel. "Promo Only MPE has been a very useful tool in assuring that our stations receive every track that is made available to us. Our program directors and station managers are embracing this new technology."

Promo Only MPE has a highly sophisticated security system which locks down the distributed content and allows labels to track who is accessing their property. Each song is uniquely encrypted so that only those with the MPE program can access it. In addition, an ID code specific to each individual user is applied when a song is requested; meaning that only registered users can access the song and, once installed, the ID cannot be moved to any other computer. Promo Only MPE is the music industry's most secure option for digital music delivery. Radio stations can pre-register for the Promo Only MPE service by filling out the online form at http://promoonlympe.com/mpeform/index.shtml.
