Welcome on Board of Victoria II, Where Kim Beddall, Marine Mammal Specialist is Narrating and Answering Questions About Humpbacks Whales

An experience of a lifetime, not to be missed! Love (and birth) season is beginning for humpback whales (baleen whales), at Samana Bay, Dominican Republic, at end of december. Listen to the male humpback's solitary courting song and witness incredible displays of flippering, tail lobbing and breaching by the most active species of whale in the Atlantic.

(PRWEB) December 9, 2004 -- There are many species of cetaceans in the oceans, seas and rivers of the world. These species are divided into two main groups. See at www.keesay.com/samana_en for more details on toothed whales, like Sperm whales, having teeth, and the baleen whales, like humpback whales, being filter feeders.

Its because calfs cant live immediatly in cold north waters, that humpbasks whales females are staying during December to March under tropical area as nursery ground.

They arrive, previous year impregnated, from Iceland, Greenland, Canada and North America, and return after births, with their calfs.

In October 1986, following several years of study, Joaquin Balagaer, the president of Dominican Republic, protected Silver Bank (Banco de Plata) as a humpback whale sanctuary.

At Samana Bay, because of its proximity to the tourist track: the whales can be seen in an area only 45 minutes away from the town of Samaná.

At Silver Bank, also educational activities are run by American and French companies that each bring 10 to 30 students, to spend a month or more with the whales. The students learn about marine conservation and assist in whale research

The full season is middle January through end of March. During December, some whales arrive near Samana Bay, but its realy after January 15th that they are very numerous.

More information on Victoria II, whales sites, how to join Dominican Republic, bed and breakfast, how much it cost.
