"More Americans Getting Cases of Crabs During the Holidays"

Giving a case of Maryland Blue Crabs proves to be a popular holiday gift idea.

Harrisburg, PA (PRWEB) December 8, 2004 -- In what appears to be a nationwide trend, more and more Americans are giving their friends and neighbors a case of crabs for the holidays. "People are looking for something different to give their loved ones" stated Kevin Shah, co-owner of Harbour House Crabs. "Maryland Blue Crabs are catching on as a great Christmas, Valentine's Day or Father's Day gift." According to Shah, sales of Maryland Blue Crabs have increased over 35% this year from last. "They come ice packed and pre-steamed, so they double as a gift and a ready-made holiday meal" he continued. Food & Wine Magazine listed Harbour House Crabs in this month's essential gift guide (pages 127-128).

With the increase in cultural diversity, the traditional Christmas turkey and ham are moving over and making room for other special occasion delicacies. "We have people ordering jumbo gulf shrimp, crab cakes, and soft shell crabs for their holiday meals" Curt Engle, fellow co-owner and entrepreneur. "A lot of coastal residents and seafood lovers want their favorite meal no matter what the occasion so it keeps us busy year around." With the advent of low carb diets, some holiday feasters are also opting for high protein seafood vs. high carbohydrate fruit cake, egg nog and Figgie pudding. While recent studies confirm that average weight gain over the holidays may only be slightly more than a pound, the weight tends to stay on and compound over time. (http://my.webmd.com/content/article/54/65227.htm) "All the more reason to give a case of crabs" Engle insisted. "While everyone else is devouring the alcohol, desserts and sweets, our customers are enjoying naturally delicious meals- what could be healthier than a case of crabs?"

Both owners agreed that the most popular item so far this year, was the dinner for two combination, complete with a dozen steamed hard shell crabs, a pair of crab cakes, a half pound of steamed jumbo shrimp, four espresso bean brownies and two mallets. (http://www.ilovecrabs.com/Search.bok?category=For%20Two) "All our products come with instructions on how to heat, eat and serve the crabs, shrimp and crab cakes... plus we have directions on our web site" Shah suggested. Like other perishables, crabs are shipped next day air delivery to assure freshness. "You can pinpoint the delivery date and approximate time so you'll be right on schedule for your guests" Shah continued. For those wanting to give a case of crabs to their loved ones, the Harbour House web site can be found at http://iLoveCrabs.com. No matter what else is on the menu, both owners concurred that, "...a crabby holiday is a happy holiday".
