Fabulous Fox Theatre Picks Atlanta Magician Turner for 75th Anniversary Celebration

Atlanta's Fabulous Fox Theatre has selected nationally renowned magician and speaker Joe M. Turner as the exclusive provider of magical entertainment for their 75th anniversary celebration. The event will include a full day of live shows, movies, music and other activities for all ages, and will take place on Sunday, Dec. 26, 2004, from 1:00 PM - 7:00 PM.

"As a performer with a musical theatre background, I consider it a real privilege to be invited to help celebrate the lasting impact that this amazing theatre has had on entertainment in Atlanta," said Turner. "It is definitely going to be a highlight of all my holiday performances this season."

Guests will experience the glitz and glamour reminiscent of opening day in 1929. Celebrations and activities will take them on a journey through the history of the theatre from its beginning to when it was saved to present day. Turner will perform themed sleight-of-hand illusions and parlor shows throughout the afternoon, evoking the parlor entertainments of the early 20th century.

"We're proud to celebrate 75 years of arts and entertainment in Atlanta, and want to thank the citizens for their support by giving them a day to share in our history," said Edgar Neiss, General Manager of the Fox Theatre. "We invite everyone to enjoy our full day of celebration."

All events will be free to the public.

At 1:00 PM, The Fox Theatre will kick off the open house with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Celebrations will include a replication of the 1929 opening day live variety show, several screenings of Georgia Public Broadcasting's 90-minute documentary on the history of the Fox Theatre, the music of a 17-piece live orchestra and singers and the option for free dance lessons courtesy of Fred Astaire Dance Studio. Many events and activities for children are also scheduled.
