Girls4Sport Sponsors Hawaiian-Born Kiteboarder Nalani Oda: A Genuine Water Woman who Inspires and Moves

Santa Cruz, CA (PRWEB) December 10, 2004 -- Girls4Sport sponsors Hawaiian-born kiteboarder Nalani Oda. A genuine water woman who inspires through her actions in an out of the water, Nalani is an exemplary Girls4Sport team rider.

Taking flight
Born and raised in Hawaii, Nalani started kiteboarding three years ago. Quickly rising to first place in her very first contest, Nalani has established the accessibility of kiteboarding for women. Nalani has placed in amateur and professional contests from Hawaii to Australia. Ive always played many sports, including surfing, but none have captured my athletic passion like kiteboarding," says 27-year-old Nalani. Its exciting to be a part of a new sport that is constantly evolving. Proficiency in kiting relies more on technique and style rather than strength, and women are re-defining the boundaries of tricks and moves just like the men."

All around role model
Girls4Sport sponsors women that inspire and move. From professional athletes to women who take their water sport seriously while pursuing careers and living real lives, G4S Team Riders are genuine athletes and role models," says Kim Ruby, president, Girls4Sport. Nalani inspires women to go out and break new ground, in sports and in life, with her ambitious attitude."

A pioneer on land
Nalani not only loves the water, but also the Alaskan wilderness. Living for six months in the Alaskan wilderness, she worked with a team of seven people dismantling, transporting, and rebuilding log cabins. Alaska was an amazing experience because it taught me the true meaning of self-reliance--a skill so important for women today," says Nalani.

Beyond kiting
Holding a BA from Colorado College, Nalani lived in Japan and taught English to Japanese students. She has plans to enter dental school. Until then, she teaches kiteboarding, catches air everyday she can, competes in international kiteboarding contests, and enjoys being with family and friends on Oahu.
