New "Age Appropriate" Jigsaw Puzzles Provide Therapeutic and Recreational Activity While Addressing the Issues of Dignity and Respect Toward Our Senior Citizens

Thera-Puzzle is a manufacturer of "Age Appropriate" therapeutic jigsaw puzzles featuring bright vivid colors and contrast on oversize, extra thick pieces. Our puzzles are used by therapist in the treatment of Alzheimer's and other forms of Dementia, Parkinson's Disease, MR, and similar disorders. They make a great activity requiring varying degrees of hand eye coordination, fine motor skills, reasoning, logic, color recognition, memory, concentration, problem solving skills, and overall cognitive ability.

Louisville, KY (PRWEB) December 11, 2004 -- As the geriatric population grows, so does the issue of dignity and respect toward our senior citizens. Today there is a growing trend within the medical community to insure that all senior citizens are treated with the utmost respect and dignity.

Large piece jigsaw puzzles have been used for many years as a form of physical therapy for patients recovering from accidents or surgeries that have affected their ability to use their hands, arms, shoulders, etc. Large piece puzzles have also been used with patients suffering from dementia and similar disorders, particularly within the geriatric population. Traditionally, these large piece jigsaw puzzles are manufactured for children and contain subject matter such as cartoon characters. They also contain pieces that are very thin and difficult for many patients to handle.

A Physical Therapist Assistant from New Albany, Indiana believes that these childrens" puzzles are inappropriate for the geriatric population, and views their usage with adults as an issue of dignity and respect". After trying unsuccessfully to find jigsaw puzzles that were appropriate for her patients, she took matters into her own hands. She and her husband have launched a new company called Thera-Puzzle, which manufactures extra large piece Age Appropriate" therapeutic jigsaw puzzles. Our puzzles have dual functionality and value as a therapeutic tool and a recreational activity."

Thera-Puzzle is slowly becoming a recognized name among therapy and recreation professionals. "Our puzzles are currently in use from coast to coast by all types of therapy professionals and individuals; in care facilities, hospitals, schools, and private homes." They currently have seven scenes available and will be adding new scenes in the very near future. Our puzzles are available in a small 4 piece version that measures 8"x10", or our standard size 11"x17" which is available in 6, 12, or 24 pieces, all measure ½" thick.

It is our most sincere hope that Thera-Puzzle will help in filling a void, that our puzzles might help those suffering from various forms and levels of dementia and similar disorders. We hope that our puzzles will provide hours of mental stimulation, activity, and therapy, allow even the most challenged individuals to feel a strong sense of accomplishment and satisfaction, and above everything else, allow them to maintain their sense of dignity and self respect."
