Genesis Health System received the Silver Award for Best Care/Disease Management Site, from The Fifth Annual eHealthcare Strategy & Trends Leadership Awards held in Las Vegas, November 9th 2004. The awards exclusively recognize the most innovative and effective web sites in the healthcare industry and acknowledge the labor and dedication that is involved in creating outstanding online tools that improve patient care.

One of the leading Internet publications and online resources, eHealthcare Strategy & Trends, received over 1200 entries for the competition this year. Entries were submitted from a wide range of healthcare organizations including: online health companies, pharmaceutical/medical equipment firms, suppliers and business improvement initiatives. There were a total of ten award categories, each awarding Platinum, Gold, Silver and Distinction honors.

Categories included: Best Site Design, Best Health/Healthcare Content, Best e-Business Site and Best Care/Disease Management Site.

The Best Care/Disease Management category was judged on medical management tools, news and information available online to help consumers manage a chronic condition, as well as two-way communication between patient and healthcare practitioners and systems to monitor clinical care. An independent panel of judges from the industry made the final decision on the recipients and the number of awards presented in each category.

Marcie Fleischman, Coordinator of Electronic Communications for Genesis Health System said, “We are very excited about receiving this recognition. This is the third consecutive year for us to receive the eHealthcare Leadership Award. We’ve worked hard to make our web site a complete online health information package with our My e-health component that integrates personal health records, message centers and health risk assessment tests.”

The innovation and success of Genesis’ web log was also hailed as a “best practice” during the November 9th luncheon. Geonetric worked closely with Genesis to create their blog, which documents a patient’s journey through bariatric surgery.

The Genesis web site was designed and launched by Geonetric in 2002. Beginning with site surveys and client research, Geonetric developed a multi-tiered content architecture, creating multiple avenues to enter the site. The installation of the VitalSite™ Content and Commerce components allowed Genesis' Marketing Department to take managerial control of content development. The use of SmartPanels created a dynamic relationship between the patient and Genesis by enabling content to be automatically cross-referenced throughout the site.

Genesis Health Systems is the Quad Cities only locally owned and operated health care system in the region and has earned recognition as one of the nation’s top 100 Health Systems. Genesis Health System and its affiliates offer a full continuum of care including preventive, primary, acute and tertiary hospital care; home health and nursing home care; hospice; long-term care and rehabilitation.
