Fifty children and young mothers really felt the holiday spirit on December 8th. These 15-toÂ?20-something mothers and their newborn to 6 year old children were met with hand-selected gifts, free disposable cameras and hugs from E-Boo Bear from Born in Canada when they arrived for a holiday party at The Dam Youth drop-in centre.

Dean Barreca, president of Born in Canada, was one of the volunteers. Born in Canada specializes in infant and children’s clothing made locally all with Canadian pride. The quality children’s clothing features special custom cotton prints of E-Boo Bear, Born in Canada logos and maple leafs.

Born in Canada hand-selected each of gift for the children based on a list they received from the event organizers. It seems the selections were a hit. One young mother was heard to proclaim to another, “Oh look, you said you really needed a hat and mitts for your daughter! These are so cute!” Each of the mothers was given a disposable flash camera courtesy of Born in Canada so they could capture their memories.

As a single parent himself, Barreca understands the challenges. He was thrilled to participate in something like this and shows families in tough times that people care. “As I saw the tears roll down the mother’s eyes as she saw the gifts for her children and the love that came with it, I knew this was what my company is all about,” said Barreca.

The children were excited about their gifts that Santa brought. But another big hit was the Born in Canada special visitor which made the night even more memorable for the little ones. No, not Santa Claus! E-Boo Bear, the giant cuddly white bear that is the Born in Canada mascot, showed up with enough hugs to go around.
