Biographical Details

Michael is a business and technology attorney specializing in the high-tech industry. His expertise covers technology business law, intellectual property, licensing, and related practice areas. As a member of Michael J. Lightfoot P.C., Michael has served clients in a range of capacities including outside counsel, business development, general counsel, corporate officer, and corporate director.

Michael began his law career in 1976 as an Assistant States Attorney in DuPage county, Illinois, before transitioning into corporate practice with Allstate Insurance Company and then First National Bank of Chicago. In 1986, Michael joined Motorola, Inc. where he spent eight years as a Senior Attorney for Motorola’s Research & Development organization, and then three years as Director of Alliances. During his tenure with Motorola, Michael negotiated technology acquisitions for business units worldwide, managed over 100 agreements worth in excess of $10 billion, and developed a comprehensive business plan that raised $10.4 million for a three-year development and marketing project for the first ever stand-alone software company inside Motorola.

Michael left Motorola to found Michael J. Lightfoot P.C., a Professional Law Corporation, and several internet law services companies, including InternetLawServices.com, MaximizeIP.com, and LicensingSoftware.com.

Michael holds a JD from Northern Illinois University and a BS in Computer Science from Lewis University. He is the author of “Negotiating for Technology” Copyright 1986-2003, and “Licensing 3rd Party Technology Training Workshop” Copyright 2000.
