WiFi, Cellular, and Wired Networks Merging To Form Pervasive Networks in Homes and Offices, Says INSIGHT Research

BOONTON, NJ (PRWEB) December 20, 2004 -- Pervasive networks-a ubiquitous fabric" of computing, information, entertainment, and telemetry capability tied together by high-speed wired and wireless networks-are emerging from a flurry of new communication technologies now being used in home and office networks. Though communications carriers do not offer this type of continuous communication as a service today, the piece parts are already in place, or will soon be. According to a new research study released by the INSIGHT Research Corporation, these services will extend the anytime, anywhere" concept of cellular mobility to its logical end-all the time, everywhere."

According to the report (Pervasive Networks: Mobility, Wireless, and Wireline Connectivity for Residential and Enterprise Applications, 2005-2009), pervasive networking takes communications mobility to the next level. Wireless networks provide mobility, and mobile computing offers anytime, anywhere" connectivity to the Internet and to other users-though in both cases users still must initiate access to the network. With pervasive networks and pervasive computing, numerous landline and wireless systems will integrate seamlessly, and will be on" all the time.

This is a big concept to grasp, since it is the logical culmination of the last twenty years of innovations in communications technology," says INSIGHT Research president Robert Rosenberg. But what is at stake are some $95 billion that will be spent over the next five years mobilizing enterprise applications and some $32 billion that will be spent by residential consumers on wireless data for information and entertainment services." Rosenberg predicts telecommunications service providers are going to give pervasive networking their full attention over the next few years."
