Let them Speak Fonikz, Teachers Can Now Teach Reading Online

Fonikz (phonics) provides teacher training and lessons for students online. There is no charge for the online courses but teachers can download workbooks for a small fee. The online course includes phonics, spelling, and vocabulary for word recognition.

(PRWEB) December 21, 2004 -- Fonikz.com is a new website where teachers, parents, and students can learn phonics online. Fonikz is a program that uses a new approach to teaching reading with phonics. It requires students to learn the 44 sounds of the English language. Then they can use the sounds to sound-out words that they know. After a few lessons, they can learn to sound-out and read unfamiliar words. Everything that teachers and students need to learn phonics is online. All they have to do is logon and start learning. The lessons are free.

The course will give teachers the skills they need to teach phonics and to choose the best material for teaching reading skills. One of the first things teachers learn is that there are twenty different vowel sounds which are represented by only five symbols, a-e-i-o-u. Since only five symbols and their combinations represent the twenty different sounds, there is much confusion.

For instance, the letter -a- has four distinct sounds: ace, are, at ago Fonikz uses four different styles to represent the different sounds (bold, underline, plain text, & both bolded and underline). As soon as students realize that each of the vowels has different sounds, they immediately start trying different sounds when learning to read new words. When they can sound-out a word that makes sense in context, students continue to read on their own.

The website is sponsored by CramSchool, which teaches reading using Fonikz. The online course includes phonics, spelling, and vocabulary for word recognition.

Both Fonikz.com and CramSchool are still evolving. CramSchool started as a private tutoring service and is now a small learning center that teaches adults to read using private lessons. Fonikz is the key to our reading program. So far we have had a 100% success rate teaching reading with fonikz. Even though the course in tough and demanding, students enjoy going through it knowing that they will learn to read in a short period of time.

Fonikz.com also acts as a resource center for parents and teachers who are looking for material for teaching reading skills. Teachers may download phonics worksheets or teach online. The average students can learn to read with the free online course. For students who learn slower, teachers and parents can buy and download specially prepared workbooks for classroom and home use.

Educators and teachers are interested in phonics now because schools are required to use a science-based program for teaching reading in order to continue to receive government funding for their schools. The No Child Left Behind" mandate requires the use of a science-based reading program, which is essentially phonics.
