Michigan Songwriting Contest Opens

This year, the Metro Detroit Songwriting Contest is expanding. Now called the Michigan Songwriting Contest, it is open to all current and former state residents.

(PRWEB) December 23, 2004 -- The Michigan Songwriting Contest, featuring 13 prizes and publicity and performance opportunities, is now open to all current and former residents of the state.

Formerly the Metro Detroit Songwriting Contest (and formerly limited to residents of Southeast Michigan), this year's contest features a $1000 cash Grand Prize. All 13 winners will have a chance to perform their songs in concert, will have their names and song titles published in a national music magazine.

Sponsors of this year's contest include Elderly Instruments of Lansing and Lamb's Retreat for Songwriters of Harbor Springs. Both Elderly Instruments and Lamb's Retreat are providing discounts and gift certificates for winners.

The deadline for the contest is March 31, 2005. All original songs are welcome, whatever the genre and musical style. There are no age limits, and the contest is open both to professional and amateur musicians. Multiple entries are allowed.

There were 10 winning songs in the 2004 Metro Detroit Songwriting Contest. The contest website contains brief biographies of the winners and judges, and photos from Winners' Showcase Concert in November. Entry forms, rules and guidelines for the 2005 Michigan Songwriting Contest are also available on the website.
