In addition, the community section offers up topics ranging from recipes to a community store. The best thing about our site is that all the input comes from the community. We are seeking articles, editorials, and any type of input from the community at large." stated Mr. Roberts. He went on to explain that there are several forums on the site that allow people to discuss topics online. The young and old banter about topics ranging from Israel to video games.
The partners seem most proud of the online dating service that is also located within the site. This service is absolutely free and a great way to meet other local Jewish singles." said Mr. Mandelman. Too many people join other sites then get frustrated with the high prices, not so in our community."
A new service to the community is a calendar that the partners have worked on extensively. This online calendar permits Jewish organizations to post their community wide events on a medium that allows visibility to anyone with Internet access.
This reporter was most impressed with the Jewish Business Directory. Although, still seeking advertisers, the directory allows anyone to search for businesses or professionals by category and direct you to a member of our Jewish community. According to Tammi Herskovitz, a lead teacher at the Memphis Jewish Community Center, when new families move to the Memphis area, they have great difficulty finding resources for placing their children in Jewish schools or finding a Jewish Doctor or real estate professional. This is like one stop shopping," she added.
The owners want the site to be community driven and are seeking input. To be listed in the business directory, to sell an item in the community store, or to submit content, contact them at hello@shalommemphis.com.
