Florida Youth Soccer Star Davide Somma to Sign Pro Contract in Italy with AC Perugia of the Italian Serie B
EduKick Vice-President and Director of Operations, Joey Bilotta, has confirmed that former EduKick Madrid camper, Davide Somma, 19 years old from Florida, has been offered a professional contract with Italian SERIE B professional soccer club, A.C. Perugia. Somma went to Perugia on trial in late October, 2004. Says Bilotta, "Davide approached us insisting that we give him a look so I invited him to our soccer camp in Madrid, Spain in July. As it turned out, the kid is a real player and I was happy to contact A.C. Perugia on his behalf."
(PRWEB) December 24, 2004 -- Somma, an Italian citizen that was born and raised in South Africa until the age of 14, now lives in Sarasota, Florida. He was first sent by EduKick to Logrono, Spain for a try-out with C.D. Logroņes of the Spanish 2nd Division. Somma was all but signed when the team was suddenly relegated to the third division (which does not allow foreign players) for not paying their debt from last season (picture of Somma attached from a Spanish newspaper).
Says Bilotta, "While Davide was with C.D. Logroņes in Spain, he proved that he can play professionally in Europe. It was unlucky for Davide what happened in Spain but the experience there served him well on his subsequent trial in Italy." Somma began training at the R. Curi Stadium training facilities of the club on Monday, October 18 and Davide went on to spend a month on trial with AC Perugia. On Monday, December 20, 2004, Bilotta (and his attorney partner at EduKick), Corey Zimmerman, received word from AC Perugia that the club will be offering Davide a contract. Says, Bilotta, I got a call from Bruno Redolfi from AC Perugia and we finally got the official word that we all were waiting for...Davide Somma is going back to Italy to play professional soccer for AC Perugia!"
To play in Italy has always been a dream for Somma, whose parents are of Italian decent and speak the language. Says, Somma, I have been given an incredible opportunity and I intend to capitalize on it!" Somma continues, AC Perugia is giving me the chance to realize my dream of playing pro soccer in Italy...I will give them 100% of my commitment as a soccer player to help the club however I can."
AC Perugia, relegated to the SERIE B last season after a play-off" loss to Fiorentina, is currently sitting in third place in SERIE B and is looking good to return to the SERIE A next season. Somma returned home to Florida on December 21 for the Holidays and will return (with his representatives, Bilotta and Zimmerman of EduKick, Inc.) to Perugia on January 10 to sign officially with the team.
