Compton Community College Deals With Critical Issues And Changes
College Regorganization
(PRWEB) December 25, 2004 -- Critical Issues And Changes - Special Trustee Arthur Q. Tyler announced that the December 14, 2004 meeting of the Board of Trustees was a momentous event. Several key actions and decisions were made that will impact the future and help chart the course for the college. Tyler stated, Despite the fact that these actions will be reported in the Board minutes, I thought it important to provide a summary of these actions for the Compton College Students, Faculty and Staff review.
Change In Board Leadership
Please be informed that on December 14, 2004, the Board of Trustees was reorganized. Gerald Burgess representing Paramount will serve as president, Carl Robinson representing Carson/Willowbrook will serve as vice president, Lorraine Cervantes representing Compton will serve as clerk and Dr. Willie Jones and Kent Swift serves as members. The District welcomes and look forward to the new leadership and express our appreciation for the leadership and commitment demonstrated under President Kent Swifts tenure. The new positions take effect immediately
Management Reorganization
As you know, we have been undergoing a process of reorganization at the administrative level. It was our goal to identify and fill the top level positions of the organization. Much of that work is now done as follows: Dr. James Williams Vice President, Administrative Services/Associate Superintendent, Arnel Pascua Chief Information Officer, Dr. Stanley Viltz, Interim Vice President for Academic Affairs and Student Life (appointed until 6/30/05). Current administrators will be reorganized into the new structure and will be retained until June 30, 2005.
Hiring Process
We will stay the course with interviews and extend the deadline as needed to complete the process. The starting date for any new hires will be set for July 1, 2005. It is important to note that the educational administrators may not necessarily stay in their current positions and could be reassigned depending on their expertise, experience and the match with college needs.
Shared Governance Process
Last night the Board of Trustees cleared the first hurdle for the initiation of a formalized and consistent shared governance process on campus by approving the Compton College Shared Governance Committee Charter submitted by Wanda Morris, Interim Committee Chair. This action paves the way for the kind of collegial consultation that will enable us all to bring the best thinking of all constituents to bear on decisions necessary to move Compton College forward. Much work lies ahead including the precise membership of the Shared Governance committee, dates for meetings and the like.
