Handgun Carry Permit Training for More than 30 States Available in Minneapolis
Joel Rosenberg's Twin Cities Carry Course now enables his students to get handgun carry permits valid in thirty states across the country, from Florida in the south and east to Alaska, in the north and west.
(PRWEB) December 27, 2004 -- Joel Rosenberg, author of "Everything Yuu Need to Know About (Legally) Carrying a Handgun in Minnesota" and "Everything Yuo Need to Know About (Legally) Carrying a Handgun in Missouri" has once again upgraded his Twin Cities Carry Course, to enable his students to be able to get carry permits valid in more than thirty states.
"It's tricky," he explained. "The Minnesota carry permit is accepted in Minnesota, of course, but in only a dozen other states -- not including, for example, either of the Dakotas."
But it is possible, he went on, to get carry permits valid in Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida
Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, New Hampshire, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wyoming.
"And you don't have to go to any of those other states to get the appropriate permits, or take any other classes other than my Twin Cities Training Class, right here in the Twin Cities."
To get the other permits, he explains, it's necessary to take an acceptable training class, then apply, by mail, for the appropriate permits.
"You don't have to apply for anything close to thirty permits. Most people will only choose to get one additional permit -- New Hampshire -- which together with the Minnesota permit brings you up to twenty states; and getting the New Hampshire permit is simple -- once you've taken the Twin Cities Carry Course and gotten your Minnesota carry permit, you've just got to fill out the right form, make a copy of a couple of documents, and send the packet to the New Hampshire authorities along with a check for $20; in a couple of weeks, you'll get your New Hampshire permit in the mail."
But, he warns, there are lots of complications. For the other four out-state permits that his Twin Cities Carry Course enables you to get, there's more paperwork, and more red tape.
"The Florida permit is usually the next one people get," he said. "And that can be complicated; the packet of materials you have to submit to the Florida authorities consists of seven documents, and each of them has to be correct. That's why I go to some trouble to make sure that my students know exactly what they need to do, and how to proceed. In my other life, I'm a writer -- and making things clear to people is what I do."
And there's another pitfall, he warns: every state's carry law is different. If you don't know what you're doing, you can break the law without meaning to do anything wrong, and without knowing it.
"I didn't realize I was breaking the law," won't go over very well with police, or in court, Rosenberg explained.
"It's not just a matter of what you can do, but what you can't do. Some states, for example, don't allow you to carry your handgun in a parade, or even into a restaurant, and if you do that -- even inadvertently -- you can find yourself in real, serious trouble. Many states have a lot of very strange restrictions on when and how you can carry, and the handouts all of my students get deals with that problem -- it's important to me that they stay out of trouble."
The cost of the class is $175, which includes a copy of Everything You Need to Know About (Legally) Carrying a Handgun in Minnesota. A downloadable PDF of introduction to the book is available, online, at http://www.howtogetthebook.com or http://www.ellegon.com/thebook.pdf.
Previous graduates of Rosenberg's Twin Cities Carry Course are entitled to retake the course as an upgrade at a reduced fee, as are people who have already gotten their Minnesota carry permit after taking classes with other instructors.
"Besides," he said with a grin, "it's good to keep your training up to date anyway. It's a serious thing, but it's also fun."
Rosenberg is certified by the National Rifle Association as an instructor in Pistol, Home Firearms Safety, and Personal Protection, and by the American Association of Certified Firearms Instructors as a Carry Permit Instructor and Carry Permit Certifying Instructor, and has been validated by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension as a Minnesota Carry Permit Instructor, making him the only instructor in the state of Minnesota with that list of qualifications. He's also been certified by the NRA as a Certified Range Officer (CRO).
In addition to his work as a firearms instructor, Rosenberg is a best-selling author, with more than twenty published novels to his credit.
He's writes frequently on issues around carry permit training issues, and maintains an online journal on the subject at http://www.joel-rosenberg.com.
