"Unabashedly Canadian" No More - Newfoundland Designer Discontinues Patriotic Canadian Swimwear Line in Protest
Newfoundland sportswear company discontinues line of Canadian Flag swimwear, in protest of the federal government's treatment of Newfoundland and Labrador, and Paul Martin's broken promises
St. Johns, Newfoundland (PRWEB) December 31, 2004 -- IQ Sportswear Inc., a Newfoundland owned and operated sportswear design and manufacturing company based in Paradise, Newfoundland has taken a bold stand in support of Premier Danny Williams. The Newfoundland Premier has been battling the Federal Government over Prime Minister Paul Martin's broken promise of 100% offshore revenue royalties.
Marie Routhier and her team have decided to discontinue their line of patriotic Canadian Flag swimwear (see www.canadianswimwear.com for more details). Initially released in 2003, the red and white line of bikinis and 1 piece swimsuits has been a hit with patriotic Canadians across the country, as well as abroad.
The decision to discontinue the line was not an easy one, as its had originally been designed out of a strong sense of patriotism. In light of recent events on the national political scene, that pride has been dimmed. Office Manager Ryan Holloway explains:
"IQ Sportswear Inc. is disgusted with the federal government's continued rape and pillage of Newfoundland and Labrador's natural resources and economic potential! Paul Martins' assertions that Newfoundland wants more than it's fair share is ridiculous. This province has been a victim of the federal government's greed and malice, since joining confederation in 1949."
CEO Marie Routhier said of this decision, "...this measure is being done in support of our Premier- Danny Williams- and in protest of the federal governments treatment of Newfoundland and Labrador. This is a Newfoundland owned and operated company, I love my province, and discontinuing the line feels right to me. If the day comes that the Feds decide to do right by Newfoundland, I may decide to re-release the line.. but I will not do so until the day comes where I am once again proud to be Canadian. Until then, we'll be flying the pink, white, and green at this office."
Routhier, a descendant of Sir Adolphe Basille Routhier - Author of our national anthem - has taken her decision a step further, and filed the paperwork necessary for a legal change of name. Effective immediately, she has elected to adopt her mothers maiden name.
