Visionary Communications in Joint Venture with Rocky Mountain Broadband
Visionary Communications has established a joint venture agreement to operate Rocky Mountain Broadband's wireless network in Douglas, WY.
(PRWEB) December 31, 2004 -- Visionary Communications, the largest Internet Provider in Wyoming, has established a joint venture with Rocky Mountain Broadband, a wireless broadband provider based in Douglas, Wyoming. The joint venture will provide Rocky Mountain with access to Visionary's private network and internet access, and provide Visionary with the ability to sell wireless broadband in the community of Douglas.
Visionary has long advocated a neutral approach to technology, using multiple technologies to deliver broadband in rural markets. The company already operates a DSL network in Douglas, competing with an existing cable broadband provider, and has been providing dialup internet access in Douglas since 1998.
"There is no such thing as a best technology to deliver broadband," says Brian Worthen, President and CEO of Visionary. "There are subdivisions that cannot get cable or DSL, and wireless is the only option. If that is the only option, we must provide it."
Rocky Mountain has been operating a wireless tower in Douglas since the beginning of 2004. The tower, placed on Chalk Buttes, covers Chalk Buttes, Ridgewater, and Westland subdivisions. The reach of the tower also covers the majority of town. Internet users in Douglas not in range of cable Internet or DSL will now have access to a fully-developed wireless network.
Rocky Mountain approached Visionary to help expand their network in Douglas and improve the company's ability to deliver wireless broadband. Visionary has completed a rebuild of the tower with a system that will reach up to 12 miles from Chalk Buttes. The partners plan on installing a second tower in Douglas by March, 2005.
Chris Paquette, President of Rocky Mountain, stated, "We have found the right partner to accomplish our goal. I started Rocky Mountain Broadband to help those in Douglas without a broadband option. This is the perfect partnership for us to deliver broadband to the community I live in."
The joint venture is important to rural broadband development, showing that companies are willing to work together to achieve similar goals. Large companies with significant investments in infrastructure do not have the flexibility that private companies do, enabling companies such as Visionary and Rocky Mountain to work together. This partnership follows other partnerships Visionary has established in Ranchester and Upton, Wyoming.
Visionary Communications is Wyoming's largest privately-owned Internet Service Provider, headquartered in Gillette, and serving more than 90 communities in the state. Visionary pioneered broadband development in the state by being the first to offer wireless and DSL broadband in Buffalo, Cody, Gillette, Newcastle, Ranchester, Rawlins, Red Lodge, Sundance, Upton, and Wright.
Rocky Mountain Broadband is a wireless provider headquartered in Douglas. Rocky Mountain has developed relationships and microwave tower locations that enable delivery of wireless broadband in the Community.
