A local North Carolina Fox station has just boycotted its own network airing of the soon-to-air reality adoption show "Who's Your Daddy". After being inundated with e-mail and negative reaction to promotions of the upcoming reality television show that appears to distastefully portray the reunion of an adoptee with her biological father for prize money, the station single-handedly elected not to air the network production. Instead, after previewing a film independently produced and directed by attorney and adoptive mother Flory G. Herman, "'I Have Roots and Branches'... Personal Reflections on Adoption", the WRAZ-TV/FOX 50 station manager has decided to air "Roots and Branches" it in its place, on Monday January 3, 2005.

Adoption advocates and organizations including support groups, attorneys, agencies, social workers, birth and adoptive families etc. engaged in massive e-mail campaigns and other lobbying techniques in response to the promotions of the FOX network reality television show "Who's Your Daddy", slated to air Monday January 3, 2005. The campaign has had an impact in at least one television market. According to Raleigh-Durham-WRAZ-TV FOX 50 VP and General Manager Tommy Schenck, Roots and Branches.. .“is a moving and genuine look at adoption and the positive impact it can have on families through many voices and different perspectives. We are proud to share this enlightening and heartwarming program, both as informative, appropriate family viewing, and as a public service as well.” Flory G. Herman, the film’s director and executive producer said “I am thrilled that the station is passionate enough about adoption and family to consider airing 'Roots and Branches.' The film is an honest and touching look at the very real, ordinary and extraordinary faces of adoption, whose stories usually go untold. There are more than one million adoptees living in this country today and therefore millions of families have been personally touched by adoption or know someone who has." Herman currently serves as a private adoption consultant to Adoption STAR, Inc., an Amherst, NY adoption agency.

The WRAZ airing will be the television debut for "Roots and Branches...", which was just released in 2004. For more information, call Flory G. Herman at (716) 636-0972 or (716) 691-3300
