ADB Signs an Additional Supplier Agreement with AUNA Telecomunicaciones

Abstract: Advanced Digital Broadcast has upgraded its November 2003 Supply Agreement with Auna and is now contracted to supply a further 100,000 digital cable set-top-boxes through 2004 and 2005.

Geneva, Switzerland (PRWEB) February 13, 2004 -- Advanced Digital Broadcast (www.adbglobal.com), a leading vendor of digital TV set-top-boxes and software solutions for interactive television, has today announced that it has signed an agreement with AUNA (www.auna.es) to provide an additional 100,000 cable digital set-top-boxes during 2004 and 2005.

Since November 2002, when ADB and Auna signed their initial supply agreement, ADB has delivered over 140.000 cable set-top-boxes to AUNA enabling it to offer its subscribers the digital TV interactive experience at a very competitive price.

ADB will maintain deliveries to AUNA of the current digital cable set-top-box, the ABQ-1H4G, a DVB and MPEG-compliant decoder incorporating ST Microelectronics STi5516 multimedia processor (www.st.com). This set-top-box supports NDS conditional access and incorporates software based on OpenTV middleware. Later this year, ADB plans to introduce a new compact set-top-box enhancing all the current features and based on ST Microelectronics 5100 chip set.

ADB and Auna have also agreed that a significant percentage of the set-top boxes supplied by the manufacturer to the cable operator will be built in Italtelīs factory in As Pontes (La Coruņa, Spain). This represents another strong statement of commitment by ADB to the European and Spanish Digital TV market.

Daniel Milla, ADB Spain Country Manager, said: This contract extension is excellent news for ADB. It firmly ensures the continuation of the commercial and technological relationship between ADB and AUNA that began over three years ago. This agreement also means that ADB will maintain its dominant position in the Spanish Cable TV market."

In 2000, ADB first developed a cable set-top-box for Madrid cable TV operator Madritel, the first cable operator to launch digital TV services for the Spanish market. Later on, ADB won two additional Requests for Proposals.

ADB will continue to develop and deliver economical high-performance cable set-top-boxes for Spain to support the explosive growth of our customers networks. AUNA is a leader in European digital television innovation and our company is proud to be a key part of that success", said Rick Smith, VP ADB Europe.
