KUA Fund Raises $37,362 for Needy Families

The Good Neighbor Energy Fund provides financial assistance to families who need help paying their monthly electric bill.

KISSIMMEE, FL (PRWEB) February 13, 2004 -–Kissimmee Utility Authority (KUA) today announced that it raised more than $37,000 in 2003 for its Good Neighbor Energy Fund, which provides financial assistance to families who need help paying their monthly electric bill.

The Good Neighbor Energy Fund is maintained through voluntary contributions from customers and employees of KUA, helping people in crisis throughout Osceola County, FL. In 2003, the utility and its customers raised $37,362, including a dollar-for-dollar matched contribution from KUA.

"Winter means lower temperatures and higher heating bills, but it doesn't have to mean greater financial hardship," said Mike Geraghty, KUA's vice president of customer service and marketing. "This fund helps stretch a family's budget for other basic necessities like food and rent."

Since 1991, KUA and its customers have raised nearly $400,000 and helped more than 2,400 families in financial crisis pay their electric bills. KUA works with local help agencies Community Action and Osceola County Council on Aging to distribute 100 percent of the money donated to the fund.

To contribute to KUA's Good Neighbor Energy Fund, personal checks can be mailed to: Kissimmee Utility Authority, P.O. Box 423219, Kissimmee, FL 34742-3219. For more information about receiving assistance through the Good Neighbor Energy Fund, contact KUA at 407-933-7777 or visit www.kua.com.

Founded in 1901, KUA is Florida's sixth largest community-owned utility providing electric, water, and communication services to 170,000 residents in five Central Florida counties.
