Mainland China to Get a Behind-the-Scenes Look at Life at Microsoft

"Microsoft in the Mirror," a book of insider stories about life at the well-known company, is going to be released in Chinese in 2004. After strong sales in the United States, translation rights for Mainland China were sold to China WaterPower Press.

Redmond, WA (PRWEB) February 18, 2004 -- The book "Microsoft in the Mirror: Nineteen Insiders Reflect on the Experience" has been selling briskly across the United States in bookstores, airports, and online, and now China WaterPower Press has bought translation rights. The Beijing publisher will print 10,000 copies of the book for sale in Mainland China in 2004. Karin Carter, 14-year veteran of Microsoft, shares her view of life at Microsoft along with first-person stories from 18 co-workers in Microsoft in the Mirror.

In Carters book, readers meet the real people behind the hype about Microsoft and its employees through thoughtful essays, funny stories, and surprising anecdotes. An untold story emerges as these insiders talk. Current and former employees from the trenches, not the executive suites, give their perspectives on their own experiences, the industry, competitors, and the Department of Justice pursuit of Microsoft. They talk about where they came from, what their experiences were at Microsoft, and what theyre doing now. Detail by detail, they paint a picture of their slice of Microsoft.

Carter says, Microsoft was my head-spinning world for fourteen years. I landed there by chance and I stayed there because it was an adventure-incredible and hard and frustrating and exciting. I moved to Seattle with very little: clothes and a tiny old blue car with one orange door. I had to puff up my résumé with every extra skill I could think of. I had one friend in Seattle. Now, when I look in the mirror, I see a person shaped by Microsoft. And Microsoft was shaped by us."

The 248-page paperback book retails for $14.95 and is available in bookstores through distributors Ingram, Baker & Taylor, and Partners/West.
