Julia L. Nielsen publishes the Young Adult novel Paula's Choice: On the Wings of Faith.

Soon-to-be eighteen-year-old Paula Winfield is an only child in the small town of Patagonia, Arizona. Her relationship with her mother is strained and she feels as if she hardly knows her father anymore. However, her life is turned upside down when a tragic accident takes her mother and her father ends up in jail; Paula, feeling betrayed and lonely, is catapulted into an unknown world which forces her to grow up and question who she really is. In comes classmate Chad Hunsaker, who becomes forefront in Paulas life and shows her kindness and love. Still, dark clouds continue to hover over the Winfield household. Paula has to decide whether she will fall or soar above the hurt and learn to forgive, heal past wounds and take the journey on the wings of faith.

Plot Synopsis: Paulas Choice: On the Wings of Faith

     Soon to be Eighteen-year-old Paula Winfield is a loner, kind of misfit in the small town of Patagonia, Arizona. Attending her last year at Patagonia Union High School, in Southern Arizona; she is the only child in her family and butts heads with her mother frequently.

     Paula just wants to be understood.

     However; life takes an unexpected turn when her mother dies from complications due to a car accident. Shortly thereafter; her father ends up in prison from tax fraud. Paula is now catapulted into an unknown world that forces her out of her shell and compels her to grow up.

     These events test her will and faith as never before.

     Throughout these challenges, she meets Chad Hunsaker who introduces her to first love and his church. After she ponders the beliefs in the church, she comes to realize she has found the peace she has longed for.
With her decision to be baptized, Paula feels that she has found a way to bring her family together to live eternally.
Nevertheless, her father cannot except her choice and therefore becomes estranged from her. Her fathers betrayal tests her newly found faith and will to forgive and love, despite sin.
Paula realizes her father isnt the perfect man she thought he was which leaves her with unanswered questions.
To make things more complicated, she has to bid Chad farewell, as he leaves for a two-year mission to Missouri. In the meantime, Paula battles the feelings of deceit and emotional pain, alone.
Then, in walks Eric who is nothing like Chad and someone Paula quickly falls for. Feeling guilty, she backs off, but still cannot deny what her heart says.
Paula is now faced with the decision of a lifetime: Eric or Chad. She also realizes the urgency to keep the promise her mother made to achieve an eternal family.
Paula has to determine for herself, whether the trials she goes through is worth the journey, on the wings of faith.
