Public televisions highly-acclaimed Barbecue America, which debuted last year to raves from critics and viewers alike, returns for a second season beginning May 2004, it was announced today by the programs new presenting station, Oregon Public Broadcasting.

PORTLAND, OR (PRWEB) February 24, 2004 -- Public televisions highly-acclaimed Barbecue America, which debuted last year to raves from critics and viewers alike, returns for a second season beginning May 2004, it was announced today by the programs new presenting station, Oregon Public Broadcasting.

In making the announcement, Jack Galmiche, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Oregon Public Broadcasting said: Rick Brownes extraordinary skills and talents as the developer and presenter of the engaging program ‘Barbecue America, combined with Oregon Public Broadcastings extensive experience in bringing high quality production to the public television system are the sure-fire ingredients that will continue this programs success."

After a successful launch in 2003 with original host station KCTS/Seattle, the program moved to OPB this year in order to keep pre- and post-production closer to home for creator, host and executive producer Rick Browne, who resides in the Portland suburb of Ridgefield, Wash.

A production of Wishing Wells Productions in association with Oregon Public Broadcasting and distributed by American Public Television, Barbecue America…A Second Helping" will continue to highlight the very best in outdoor cooking as Rick travels the countrys highways, back roads and bayous in his 35-foot Georgie Boy 'Barbecue America' motorhome exploring America's legendary contribution to the culinary landscape.

Season two promises 13 half-hour episodes guaranteed to satisfy the appetites of outdoor grilling fans across the nation and throughout Canada, serving up everything from grilled mahi mahi to emu, pitchfork steaks to wild mushroom sausage, tequila rib-eye steaks to mojo pork butt cooked in a brown paper bag.

Set entirely on location, each episode features a different barbecue event, regional cooking style, local culinary abundance, or restaurant, whose cuisine is a magnet that draws diners from miles away. BBQA serves up local history and lore along with recipes and how-to tips, while discovering the people, places, characters and country that make up the culinary fabric of America.

From the Hold ‘em and Hit ‘em BBQ contest in Texas to a demonstration of Cuban grilling in Florida, from the Crab Festival in San Francisco to deep frying lessons amidst thousands of gators in Orlando, from the Culinary Arts Experience in Charlotte, N.C. -- where barbecue has gone upscale – to the vineyards of the Napa Valley to demonstrate how wine and Que complement each other, BBQA is certain to be the most innovative, and the most fun, cooking program on public television.

Each episode also includes a "backyard" segment in which Browne shows his audience how to cook up championship Que on their own grills, sharing mouth-watering recipes, helpful techniques, and delicious regional and cultural cooking styles learned on his travels. This season, Rick's backyard" is the magnificent La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California.

Browne brings impeccable ‘que-dentials to his riveting series. Co-author, along with Jack Bettridge, of the critically acclaimed travelogue/cookbook, The Barbecue America Cookbook (Lyons Press), and author of the best-selling Grilling America cookbook and The Frequent Fryers Cookbook (Harper Collins/ReganBooks), hes one of only two-dozen real-life Doctors of Barbeque Philosophy, holding a Ph.B bestowed upon him by the prestigious Kansas City Barbeque Society.

An award-winning photojournalist for such renowned publications as Time, Newsweek, People, The New York Times and MacLeans, Brownes keen eye for both the story and visuals translates into remarkable episodes, packed with color, lore and excitement.
