Perfect Order Develops and Delivers IT Solution to Nanofabrication Facility

CommNav Inc., a division of Perfect Order, developed and deployed a Web-based solution to the Nanofabrication Facility located in the College of Engineering at Penn State University. Laboratory, equipment and materials usage are all tracked, invoiced and billed through the solution.

Initially deployed at a nanofabrication facility, the solution is targeted to laboratories that need to track and bill lab and equipment usage, administer security rights and communicate with researchers and administrators who use the facilities. Built on Java2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) technology, the Smart Laboratory Management Hub provides a solid framework for cusomization and rapid application development.

CommNav, a division of Perfect Order Inc., was chosen to design and implement a portal solution for the Nanofabrication Facility located in the Engineering Department at the Pennsylvania State University in University Park, PA. Using their Smart Hub portal framework, developers were able to deliver a system design that had high availability, was secure and could be accessed across several platforms. Additionally, the system replaced the existing antiquated database and integrated with the existing C-CURE card key and SunRay systems.

According to Bill Kratzer, Perfect Orders Software Development Manager and the projects manager, The systems that the lab was using were error-prone and burdensome. The Laboratory Management Hub allows the labs assistants to provision access to the portal, SunRays and lab card key system using roles-based access provided by the portal. Additionally lab, equipment and materials usage are all tracked, invoiced and billed through the solution."

Currently, approximately 100 researchers from academia and industry, as well as more than 20 staff members have utilized the portal since its installation. The facilitys management staff is experiencing a tremendous amount of positive feedback from portal users regarding ease of use and the added capabilities. The user base is expected to at least double over the next year.
