New study reports the Amish have one of the lowest obesity rates in the world.

New study reports the Amish have one of the lowest obesity rates in the world. Carol Spencer one of the founders of the Healthy Recipe Diet explains why.

(PRWEB) March 24, 2004 -- Do the Amish have it right? A recent study published in the journal of Medicine & Science & Exercise found that the Amish have an obesity rate of only 4% while the rest of us are at an epidemic 31% The study reports that the average Amish gets much more exercise than the rest of us, and this is a major factor in their low obesity rate.

But Carol Spencer co-founder of http://www.DietServices.com and The Healthy Recipe Diet says the real secret of the low Amish obesity rate is what they eat. At first glance that does not seem possible, the Amish eat a diet of pancakes, eggs, ham, cake and milk- not exactly diet food.

Carol points out that the Amish eat almost no processed foods, the Amish eat eggs from pastured hens, that can contain as much as 10 times more omega-3s (Omega-3s are "good fats") than eggs that you buy in a supermarket. The grass fed beef they eat is so much higher in nutritional value than the grain feed beef we eat, it is almost like eating a different animal.

Even the fruits and vegetables grown without chemical pesticides and artificial fertilizer are better for you than what is in the supermarket. Carol agrees that the amount of exercise the Amish do is a factor in their low obesity rate, but the real secret is in the foods that they eat. It is food that got us heavy, Carol says and food that can get us thin.

The Healthy Recipe Diet offered on the http://DietServices.com web site is based on Amish recipes and turn of the century recipes that are balanced and have high nutritional value.
