Relevant Business Systems Chooses J2EE over .Net for Future Development

After an extensive review of both platform options, Relevant Business Systems, a leading supplier of ERP software to manufacturing market, has selected J2EE as its development platform of the future. This decision will provide its Aerospace & Defense, Engineer to Order, Contract Manufacturing, Maintenance Repair & Overhaul and project based manufacturing customers with a scaleable platform independent solution.

San Ramon, CA (PRWEB) April 8, 2004 - Relevant Business Systems, an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software provider to leading Aerospace & Defense, Engineer-to-Order, Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul, Contract Manufacturers and other project based firms, announced today that they will use Suns J2EE for future product development. Relevant believes the choice of J2EE provides an optimal fit with their product offering and more closely matches the needs of their customers across a broad range of requirements.

As an Independent Software Vendor (ISV) Relevants choice of J2EE over .NET was based not only on what worked best for their internal product development but also on the needs of a diverse customer base. Critical to both audiences were:

  • Platform independence: Many of Relevants customers have server standards dictating the platform enterprise applications may be deployed on. In addition, Relevants smaller customers often prefer the Microsoft Windows server platform, while larger multinationals gravitate towards UNIX. NET is restricted to Windows. J2EE will allow Relevant to write a single application deployable in multiple environments.

  • Scalability: Relevents enterprise software equally addresses the requirements of sites supporting as few as thirty or as many as several thousand users. Given that the typical installed life span of an ERP system is eight to ten years, this is a key product advantage. Relevant wanted to ensure that its choice of underlying technology would preserve and enhance their products ability to gracefully scale to growing customers needs. While .NET is considered to have a slight advantage in smaller environments, analysts and users alike consider J2EE to be the only real choice in environments with over 300 users

  • Product Performance: A robust, feature rich enterprise product is particularly critical to the project-oriented businesses Relevant serves. While .Net has the richer user interface, J2EE provides the stronger backend needed for Relevants server side-focused development. Access to the underlying technology, the ability to handle high volume transactions and many built-in features such as session management, fail-over, load balancing and application integration make J2EE a more robust and suitable technology for Relevants enterprise software.

We took the unique step of investing development dollars into both platforms" comments Patrick Garrehy, the companies President, CEO and Co-founder, We feel very strongly that we have positioned ourselves for the future in a way that enables us to best meet the needs of current and future customers. By choosing J2EE, we strongly considered development and deployment costs and product extensibility, both internally and for our customers."
