Canoo releases ULC 5.2

Major upgrade offers drag and drop functionality, improved memory management and better servlet integration

Basel, Switzerland (PRWEB) April 10, 2004 --Canoo today announced the immediate availability of UltraLightClient 5.2.

UltraLightClient (ULC) is a software library that provides thin client support for Swing, the standard component library for rich Java clients. Using this library, server-side J2EE applications offer rich Swing-based graphical user interfaces in a thin-client architecture.

Based on open standards, ULC easily integrates with any J2EE software. It provides developers with a homogeneous environment and speeds up both development and deployment of client/server applications.

New in 5.2
Version 5.2 now provides support for drag and drop user interaction. With this upgrade, elements such as tree nodes, list entries or text snippets can be moved from one ULC widget and dropped onto another ULC widget or other office or mail applications. Sample code showing how to add typical drag and drop operations to a web application is provided with the software.

In addition, memory management has been substantially improved: ULC now supports distributed garbage collection between client and server.

Servlet integration has been enhanced. A wider range of deployment scenarios is now supported. In addition, the API has been extended to allow access to context information.

Pricing
ULC 5.2 is available directly from Canoo at http://www.canoo.com/ulc for US$ 1495 per developer license. A free evaluation license may be obtained for 30 days, with free runtime distribution on any number of servers. A client/server simulator is part of the ULC base library, allowing both client and server to run within the same Java Virtual Machine during development.

Additional ULC products include a visual editor for WebSphere Studio and a load and performance tester. Further details are available at the product site (http://www.canoo.com/ulc).

Online demo applications can be viewed at http://www.canoo.com/ulc/demos/index.html.

Canoo is participating in the Eclipse Visual Editor project (http://www.eclipse.org/vep). The company is currently porting its ULC Visual Editor to the new Eclipse visual GUI construction and editor platform. The release of the GUI builder for Eclipse is planned for June 2004.
