Texas Youth ChalleNGe Mentor Opportunity

The Texas National Guard's Youth ChalleNGe Program is hosting a Mentor Training. This is more than a chance for aspiring mentors to complete the required class. Any adults interested in learning more about the program, whether curious about mentoring, parents of potential students, or those interested in decreasing their high school drop out rate are welcome to attend.

(PRWEB) April 10, 2004 --The Texas National Guard's Youth ChalleNGe Program (called Seaborne ChalleNGe Corps) is hosting a Mentor Training on May 22nd, 2004 from 10am to 1pm. The training will take place simultaneously in Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Austin, San Angelo, and Weslaco, Texas. Any adults interested in learning more about the program, whether curious about mentoring, parents of potential students, or those interested in decreasing their high school drop out rate are welcome to attend. This class also satisfies the training requirement for our current aspiring mentors.

Youth ChalleNGe is a 17-1/2 month program for students at-risk of dropping out of high school. These youth decide for themselves that a change is needed in their lives and apply to attend the prestigious military style school. Each class is divided into a 5-1/2 month Residential Phase where the students are housed and trained at the program site in Galveston. The remaining 12-month Post-Residential Phase consists of graduates pursuing their education and career goals with the help of adult volunteer mentors from their hometowns across Texas. For more information please visit http://WWW.NGYCP.ORG/STATE/TX or call 1-866-SEA-BORN. Training reservation required in case venues or times change. Register online, via email (steinhia@tamug.tamu.edu), or by phone today!
