RFID Technology the Focus of Wisconsin eBusiness Forum Event May 5th

The Wisconsin eBusiness Forum will hold its next event at Center for Advanced Technology and Innovation (CATI) in Racine, Wisconsin from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The topic will be RFID technology and applications and will be accompanied by an update from a member of the standards committee.

MILWAUKEE, WI (PRWEB) April 12, 2004 -Join the Wisconsin eBusiness Forum for an up-to the-minute discussion of red-hot RFID (radio frequency identification) technology - plus an update on the status of Electronic Product Code standards from a member of the standards committee !

No topic could be more relevant to anyone involved with the emerging infrastructure that is enabling and redefining eBusiness. We are pleased to be able to share some time with one of the experts in the work being done in this area, Ms. Paula Giovannetti. Plan to attend now and update your knowledge of what is happening in this fast-moving field !

Ms. Giovannetti will discuss basic terms, common applications and the standards work being done for Electronic Product Codes and Radio Frequency Identification. Learn about the EPC number used in RFID tags, and the EPC network that will allow things to talk to things". Cartons, shelves, fork lift trucks, and dock doors will be able to communicate the location and status of items, cartons and pallets. RFID, already mandated by Wal-Mart, Target, Albertsons, and the U.S. Department of Defense, is on a fast track. Standards are still being written for this new technology. Learn about the latest standards developments from a member of the EAN.UCC committee determining EPC specifications.

Paula Giovannetti serves on the EAN.UCC Physical Technical Requirements Group, the twenty-four member committee which determines international AIDC, bar code and RFID standards. She has over eighteen years experience in bar codes and Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) in the retail, grocery and industrial/commercial sectors. Ms. Giovannetti is the Director of Electronic Commerce for the Industrial Supply Manufacturers Association and serves as Director of Research and Development for the Vendor Compliance Federation.

This event will be held at the Center for Advanced Technology and Innovation in Racine WI. Free parking is available at the site.

Directions – The Center for Advanced Technology and Innovation is just off I-94 near Racine, Wisconsin. From Milwaukee, take I-94 towards Chicago. Take the Highway 20 Exit and go east to the first stoplight, which is Renaissance Drive / HWY H. Turn right (south). CATI is next to the water tower, about ¾ of a mile. 2320 Renaissance Blvd., Sturtevant, Wisconsin.
