Financial Expert Chucks It All For First Love
New travel guide to Lower Manhattan spurred by 9/11.
(PRWEB) April 17, 2004 --Hillary Davis, author of the critically acclaimed book about the securities industry, A Million A Minute: Inside the Mega Money High Tech World of Traders (HarperBusiness) - praised in a half page review in the Financial Times of London as an excellent book" - threw it all in to pursue her first love, that of the history and lore of Lower Manhattan.
Over a period of three years she did extensive research both on foot and in the New York Historical Society Library tracking down interesting facts, dining in great restaurants, and visiting every store and museum to obtain an in-depth knowledge of the area. She also moved to Battery Park City from London where she had been an investment banker at Baring Brothers in order to immerse herself in the experience of living in the area. The result is her just released book, Follow Me! Guide to Lower Manhattan (Follow Me! Guides; April 1, 2004; $18.95).
I could see the Statue of Liberty at night from my bedroom window, and with the breeze drifting in over me from the sea I fell in love again."
That love began as a child, when her father would bring her family to Lower Manhattans old Washington Market for fresh produce and baked goods, then take them to local restaurants in Chinatown and Little Italy.
While volunteering for Michael Bloombergs mayoral campaign she witnessed 9/11. That pivotal event confirmed her resolve to complete her guide to celebrate the historical significance and vibrancy of one of the most interesting places in the world to explore.
This is what visitors yearn to see. They unpack their bags and head downtown to see the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Wall Street, the South Street Seaport, Ground Zero, Little Italy, Tribeca,....and so much more. The area has a special draw and meaning to a lot of the world."
Regis Philbin, television host, read the guide and gave it its ultimate review when he wrote, No one has explored Lower Manhattan like Hillary Davis. Its all here for you to experience and enjoy. Even if you lived there all your life, you really dont know this place till you read this book."
From an historical perspective, Davis enthusiastically adds, This is the oldest part of New York. It was the nations first capitol. It is where George Washington was inaugurated as first President of the United States and where he and his small group of freedom fighters gathered in the streets and small attic offices to conceive of and create a new nation, one built on freedom."
She adds, As for today, Lower Manhattan has some of the best restaurants in the city, great shopping and sightseeing......well, as you can see, it claimed my heart long ago."

Hillary Davis book, Follow Me! Guide to Lower Manhattan (the soul of New York)....tells us in 1625 four Dutch West India ships named the Mackerel, the Horse, the Sheep, the Cow, sailed into New York Harbor.
