Picture Book "Forever Friends" is Adopted by Humane Educators, Dog-Lovers and Children Across the U.S.

"Forever Friends," a popular children's picture book about the beneficial relationship between a boy and his dog, has been adopted by humane educators and literacy programs across the U.S. Unique among pet stories, "Forever Friends" is narrated by the dog, and focuses on the benefits reaped by the child -- including increased exercise, sociability and self-esteem.

LOS ANGELES, CA (PRWEB) April 29, 2004 -– New to paperback this month, the children's book "Forever Friends," published by smallfellow press, written by Barbara S. Cohen and illustrated by Dorothy Louise Hall, is fast becoming a hit among humane educators and literacy programs around the U.S.

The picture book, narrated by a mutt named Petey, depicts the special relationship between a dog and a boy, his best friend, Skip. Peteys actions are central to the health and well-being of his owner. "I teach him to love nature. Its important for him to make friends, so I greet the neighbors [as he licks the little girl next door!]."

"Forever Friends" has been adopted by "reading to dogs" literacy programs throughout the country, including Barks & Books, run by the Pasadena Public Library system. The central purpose of such programs is to allow children the opportunity to practice reading aloud to friendly, furry listeners who wont criticize their efforts.

In addition, the book is a recommended title among various humane education organizations, including the Dumb Friends League of Colorado, whose mission includes "speaking for those who cannot speak for themselves."

For additional information on the author or the book, or to adopt the book for literacy programs in your region, contact Claudia Sloan at Tallfellow Press, (310) 203-3837.
