5 myths about Global Positioning Software (GPS)
GPS systems are too expensive for average businesses.
FleetBoss solutions start at about $1,000 per vehicle plus a one-time setup fee, with no recurring costs – Less than average wasted fuel costs. (According to the U.S. Department of Energy, excessive idling can waste up to 800 gallons of fuel yearly for the average truck. At $1.75 per gallon, thats $1400 annually.)

Its too much trouble to use.
Adopting new technology is often seen as time-consuming and frustrating. FleetBoss engineers understood that and created a system that is hands-free, requires little or no driver interaction, and works with an easy-to-use desktop application.

I know everything going on with my vehicles. I dont need it.
Most fleet managers already have excellent tools for scheduling and tracking. But going beyond routing and time tracking can be invaluable, as in this example from Mark Musgrove of Tejas Equipment, McAllen, TX. We use FleetBoss, Deere's tracking system, on a number of our Deere backhoes," says Musgrove. We recently had trouble with a customer who ran up to his time limit on a backhoe, so we called and said he had to pay additional rent. But he wouldn't come in. We gave him a deadline, he agreed, but then failed to pay. We went to the location and couldn't find the machine. We looked on the Internet, and saw that he had moved it. When we showed up at that location, his jaw hit the ground. So he came in and paid. Just that one deal paid for the monthly cost of using the system."

Only the big guys use them.
Tech Solutions Plus offers configurations for all company sizes. GPS systems can have instant benefits even for small companies. We tried the FleetBoss GPS model 2500 on 10 vehicles to start, just to see if the system would perform the way we had hoped. After 30 days, we identified enough speeding, excessive truck idling, and incorrect timesheets to tell us that our entire fleet needed to be equipped with the FleetBoss GPS system." - David Korte, Outside Operations Manager, Korte Does It All, Inc.

Its a flashy technology used in expensive cars - that doesnt give results.
GPS-based systems have been proven and tested for years, and FleetBoss has been constantly upgrading the technology since 1998. AAA chose FleetBoss to be a preferred supplier of fleet management products and services to its affiliated clubs in the United States and Canada. With more than 46 million members, AAA is the largest organization for vehicle owners in North America.

How it works:
The Boss® systems combine GPS-based tracking data and proprietary software to deliver an information in a cost-effective way, monitoring efficiency and productivity. The systems provide managers with key vehicle data such as start and stop times, number of stops by address per day, mileage, maximum speed, idle times, routes traveled and much more.

The systems can also be customized to monitor service equipment usage. For example, a carpet cleaning company can use FleetBoss® to track the number of times per day the cleaning equipment is turned on or off; the amount of time the equipment is used at each stop, etc.

The Boss® systems use a small antenna on each vehicle that links it to the GPS system which can then monitor each vehicle's activity 24/7, all year round. The vehicle data is easily downloaded into the user's database, providing a permanent history of the entire fleet operation.

Basic System Components:
Antenna - mounted on the vehicle.
Vehicle Unit - a small device, mounted inside the vehicle, collects the data.
Memory Module - used in The Boss®1000 system, it collects the data while attached to the Vehicle Unit.
Base Station - a peripheral device that connects to the user's computer, receiving the download data form the vehicles.
Software - converts raw data into useful management information.
