With HELIOS File System Test, which is free of charge, every Macintosh user can verify in a quick and reliable way whether the utilized file server is in all respects compatible with Mac OS X.
The HELIOS File System Test suite comprises a total of 11 single tests and is suited to examine the following Mac OS X network connections:
- AFP (Apple Filing Protocol)
- NFS (Network File System)
- SMB/CIFS (Windows SMB Protocol)
- WebDAV (iDisk HTTP based protocol)
Among other things, the program checks the support of file sizes exceeding 4 GB, long file names, UTF-8 compatibility, correct file access rights as well as the consistent use of file/directory IDs. In case the tested server fails the examination, HELIOS File System Test will issue a detailed error log message.
Our tests carried out with HELIOS File System Test and HELIOS LanTest, which is also free of charge, prove that only the Apple Filing Protocol version 3.1 guarantees faultless and powerful file server operation.
Full Mac OS X 10.3 client compatibility can only be achieved with Apple's native OS X AFP Server or with HELIOS EtherShare (AFP 3.1 extension needed). Windows 2003 Server and other Apple compatible AFP file server solutions merely offer a limited Mac OS X 10.3 client compatibility.
