When Michelle Witmer was 10 she had a vision of her future, telling her sisters she wanted to be a hero. Michelle Witmer, 20, died a hero on April 9 in Iraq, serving her country.
Project ChildHelp, Inc., a non-profit, 501(c) 3 tax exempt organization based out of Miami, Florida, and dedicated to bringing humanitarian relief to special needs abandoned children in the Dominican Republic joins Alex Estrella in honoring the memory of Michelle Witmer who was killed April 9, 2004 in Baghdad, Iraq, while on patrol with the 32nd Military Police Company. Michelle was a member of the Wisconsin National Guard.
Alexander J. Estrella is a graduate of Miami Edison Senior High School, and served in the U.S. Army both overseas and state-side. He took part in military campaigns in Panama (Operation Just Cause) and in Saudi Arabia (Desert Shield/Storm).
The goal of this event is to keep the memory of Michelle Witmer alive and other soldiers who died in the war and to show our appreciation to all members of the military who serve our country. Funds raised will go toward the orphans and abandoned children in the orphanage where Michelle Witmer served as a volunteer in Baghdad (Missionaries of Charity) and to further the work of Project ChildHelp, Inc. Letters and cards for the soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan will also be collected along the run.
