FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

C.H.E.F. ® Announces Alliance with Discovery Communications, Inc.s United Learning Division

Innovative School Programs to Improve Health of Nations Youth

SEATTLE, WA (May 11, 2004) – Comprehensive Health Education Foundation (C.H.E.F.®), the nationally recognized publisher of K-12 prevention curricula, announced today that it has entered into a multi-year licensing partnership with United Learning, a division of Discovery Communications, Inc. The new partnership will leverage C.H.E.F.s unique expertise in prevention education, United Learnings position at the forefront of health and prevention video-based learning, and Discovery Communications, Inc.s globally recognized brand name.

According to Larry Clark, President and CEO of Comprehensive Health Education Foundation, the combination of these dynamic and creative organizations will represent a major new force in prevention education that will underscore our collective commitment to helping young people grow up healthy. By combining our unique areas of expertise and resources in this critically important area, we will have the ability to reach our nations youth in ways that will have immediate, far-reaching and measurable impact."

This is a partnership that will address the most timely and critical health education and prevention issues among school-aged youth, their parents, and teachers," said Debra Keene Bergeron, Vice President, C.H.E.F. Not only will it afford us the opportunity to utilize new and emerging technologies to reach the classroom in ways that are dynamic, interactive and engaging, but it will also provide us with the ability to combine product development, sales and marketing resources, allowing us to forge a bold and exciting new path for the future."

Comprehensive Health Education Foundation and United Learning are not strangers to one another. Prior to Discovery Communications, Inc.s acquisition of United Learning late last year, the two organizations enjoyed a positive working relationship together in which United Learning handled marketing and distribution for many of C.H.E.F.s products. With a history of success that dates back to 1996, it made absolute sense to evolve our partnership and take it to the next level" said Joel Altschul, CEO of United Learning. C.H.E.F.s programs, like Heres Looking at You® and Get Real about Violence®, have helped millions of students avoid violence and drug abuse, and we look forward to reaching even more young people with new and exciting digital programs."

Founded in 1974 and celebrating its 30th Anniversary this year, Seattle-based Comprehensive Health Education Foundation (C.H.E.F.) is a nationally known nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting health and quality of life through education. A leader in prevention education, C.H.E.F. develops numerous programs which have been proven effective by the Center for Substance Abuse (CSAP), and is also the developer of Heres Looking at You®, the most widely used K-12 drug prevention curriculum in the country.
