Solution for Affordable Healthcare? Nanotechnology

So says healthcare and nanotechnology expert Richard H. Smith. In his upcoming talk for the World Future Society National Capital Region Chapter on Thursday, May 20 at 8:00pm at the Friendship Heights Embassy Suites, Mr. Smith will discuss recent nanotechnology advances, what they portend for the future in healthcare and trends that might derive from current research and development which could revolutionize how doctors think about and administer care.

Washington, DC (PRWEB) May 18, 2004 -- Nanotechnologist Richard H. Smith, in his talk, From Housecalls to House Calls, will talk about a logical pathway from recent inventions in medical diagnostics and therapeutics now coming out of university labs that will lower healthcare and insurance costs.

We are about to come full circle from the days when doctors made housecalls to patients homes to a new day when houses will call the doctor when the people get sick—even before the people realize they re sick," Smith envisions. Recent advances in nanotechnology will allow diagnostic devices in homes and schools to catch diseases when theyre cheaper to cure." Smith also claims that the savings from eliminating wasted doctor (and emergency room) visits can translate into affordable insurance for everyone. Smith will present innovations already in the testing stage which will make diagnosis and treatment faster and cheaper, in some cases as soon as in three to five years assuming venture capital investment.

Richard Smith is a Principal in the nanotechnology commercialization firm Nanoverse LLC. He is Co-Founder of the Nanotechnology Policy Foundation and President of the Nanotechnology Network.

The dinner will take place Thursday, May 20, 2004 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Embassy Suites Hotel at 4300 Military Road (corner of Wisconsin Ave.) at the Friendship Heights Metro station. For more information and to register, go to http://www.natcapwfs.org/
