CHICAGO, IL (PRWEB) May 18, 2004 -- Crystal Smothers, Founder and Publisher of the African American Woman Newspaper announced today the 1st Annual African-American Woman Newspapers Fundraising Dinner/Concert entitled Soul Of A People". The event will take place on Friday, June 25, 2004 from 6:00pm until 9:00pm at the Center For Inner City Studies; Northeastern Illinois University, located at 700 E. Oakwood, Chicago. For tickets call: 773-381-6444; ticket prices range from: $30 per person, $50 per couple or $100 for a Group of five, college students -$25.The event includes Buffet style dining and African Cuisine.
The event is a collaboration between the African Street Youth Organization (A.S.Y.O.), led by Ato Kwamena Nyankom (Founder and CEO), and Kofi Anaman a son of a traditional ruler of Ghana, the Ghanas Ministry of Tourism, the African-American Woman Newspaper, Solutions In Motion, and Dr. Victoria Gardner Placker of Colorado.
The purpose of this endeavor is to unite, enhance education and entrepreneurship among a group of diverse cultures as well as to raise funds for the National Childrens Health Foundation for disadvantaged children in Ghana and the launch of Save The Child Through Music" CD. African American Woman Newspaper Publisher Crystal Smothers was recently named International Coordinator for the launching of the Save The Child Through Music" CD, a fund-raising vehicle initiated by the ASYO. There will also be live theatre concert performances by Cora Baldwin as Mahalia Jackson and Traimaine Hawkins, Wanda Lewis (Sounds of Blackness) portraying Billie Holliday and Patti LaBelle, together with some of Ghanas most talented musicians/singers, which will include Pat Thomas of Pan Africa organization, Diana Akiwumi, Shasha Marley, Abrewanana, and the Nubian Dance Ensemble.
Additionally, there will be recognition of the African American Woman Newspapers Hidden Rubies" Awards for influential women and men in business, community activism, and the arts. Awardees include: Willie Dixon (Wang Dang Doodle), Shirley Dixon (Blues Heaven Museum), Sam Henderson (African-American Reader Newspaper), Ephraim Martin of Martins Inter-Culture, and Rev. Dr. Willie Barrow, Chairperson of Operation Push. Among the invited dignitaries are: Musicians Union of Ghana President, King Nana Kobina Nketsia of Esikado, King Nana Enkra Koho of Anaji Traditional Area and the Mayor Mr. Philip Nkrumah of Sekondi-Takoradi (the twin City of Ghana).
