Eracent Announces Early Warning Virus Vulnerability Service

As part of its ongoing program to aid its customers in the fight against the proliferation of viruses and malicious code, Eracent, Inc. announced today that it will provide its customers with automatic audit file updates to help identify those systems in the network which are vulnerable to newly identified viruses and worms.

(PRWEB) May 20, 2004 -- As part of its ongoing program to aid its customers in the fight against the proliferation of viruses and malicious code, Eracent, Inc. announced today that it will provide its customers with automatic audit file updates to help identify those systems in the network which are vulnerable to newly identified viruses and worms. The automatic updates to be triggered by the release of published anti-virus definitions and will be available on a 7 x 24" basis. Minutes after either Norton Anti-virus or MacAfee antivirus signatures are transmitted to the comprehensive Eracent knowledgebase, customer audit files will also be updated by means of an automated download.

This new service will be available to all of the companys clients worldwide. Eracent customers will be able to perform a constant scan of all devices in an enterprise-wide network and receive near real-time reports of the location of systems that are susceptible to new viruses and worms. Early detection will allow IT managers to update the virus protection on identified systems before the network is severely impacted.

Eracent customers see a real benefit to the new service. One company representative commented, Like many other commercial establishments, we finds ourselves vulnerable to computer virus attacks. Prior to deploying EnterpriseAM, the time to eradicate each virus from the network was estimated to be 2 weeks. With Eracents extremely accurate software file discovery and identification capabilities the time to recover was reduced to 3 business days. In one case this thing brought us to our knees for 5 hours one day. The next morning we were up, fighting fires, but we were up. The outage most likely would have been a week or more without the Eracent data." With constant audit file updates Eracent customers will be able to react even more quickly, keeping critical systems available to the enterprise.

Speaking about the new service, Ed Cartier, Eracents VP of Marketing, said: The recent Slammer virus attacks have highlighted the importance of staying current with security updates and patches. But how many IT managers have a detailed, comprehensive picture of their network's software and hardware vulnerabilities? Even with the comprehensive firewall and anti-virus tools available, how can any CIO be sure that there are not systems within the enterprise that are vulnerable to attack? One of our objectives at Eracent is to continue to develop technology to help the CIO identify infected systems and systems susceptible to attack."
