Learning Without Boundaries: Brooklyn-Based Tutoring Service Offers It All

Greater Paths, Inc. founded in March 2004 by Crystal Solange Elie, provides online, email, phone and in-person tutoring. Company launches its online summer course catalog.

Brooklyn, NY (PRWEB) June 7, 2004 -- Greater Paths, Inc., a new Brooklyn-based K-12 tutoring service launches its website today. Students can go to the company's website and register for online summer courses in any subject area. Students can also receive private online tutoring in any subjects.

The student and tutor will interact live in an online classroom, complete with file/application sharing capabilities and virtual chalkboard.

The online classroom is a simultaneous web and phone conference, where students can speak to their tutor and other classmates over the phone while watching the tutor work on an assignment right on the screen. Online tutorial sessions simulate a real classroom session as though the students and tutor were sitting in an actual classroom.

Most courses will meet 2 days a week for 1 hour and 15 minutes each. However if a student opts for a personal tutor, he/she can come up with the appropriate tutorial schedule.

The cost of tutoring is $19 a month and $19 per tutorial.

After the summer ends, the company has plans to expand its tutorial offerings. Beginning in September 2004, Greater Paths will also offer live online tutoring, email tutoring, phone tutoring and even in-person tutoring for younger students.

Students and their parents will be able to read tutor profiles of Greater Paths tutors and then go on to have an immediate online session with a tutor in any academic subject, live in the online classroom.

If students choose to they can schedule a tutorial session with any tutor they are interested in. Students also have the option of submitting an assignment they need help with and can get immediate online help from any available tutor. Greater Paths tutors will be available between 2pm and 2am EST.

In order to get unlimited access to Greater Paths' services, students must become members of the site. Although more services are offered, the price of tutoring will remain the same. Once students pay their membership fee of $19 a month, they can have any tutorial for $19.

Greater Paths was founded less than one month ago by Crystal Solange Elie, a Sarah Lawrence College sophomore with the mission of providing limitless tutoring options for students across the country. "I wanted to create the type of tutoring service I needed when I was younger: help during the hours I needed it the most, from comfort of my own home, and a service that would not be a strain on my parents' budget," Elie said. "I am proud to say that I did not make any compromises when forming my company. I kept our prices low and the quality of tutoring high. The tutors who work with this company are honestly some of the most brilliant people I know."

Greater Paths tutors are all college students enrolled in graduate or undergraduate colleges and universities around the world. The first group of tutors have been hand-selected out of hundreds of application inquiries from across the globe. "One of our tutors is from Italy," Elie said. "The fact that a student from Brooklyn who is struggling in Italian could get tutoring from a tutor who was born, raised and still lives in Italy just blows me away. This was precisely my vision for my company: learning without boundaries. We even have a college student from India who is interested in starting a network of tutors over there. The support from interested tutors has been overwhelming."

Though she has been calling her tutoring service a "tutoring revolution" since its inception, Elie has no plans to overtake some of the more popular tutoring services currently popular with students and their parents. "For us, it's all about the students. We just want to help as many students work through their academic dilemas as we can. I agree that my company may not have millions of satisfied students yet or even certified tutors. But it should be noted that many of our tutors have years of experience as personal tutors. They are also young, unique and have fresh approaches to learning."
