A New Twist on Benchmarking Health Care Claims
OnlineBenefits Unveils its Claims Analysis Report
Uniondale, NY (June 8, 2004) – OnlineBenefits, Inc., provider of Internet-based HR solutions, has released a Claims Analysis Report that benchmarks a health plan sponsors claims experience against the nation's largest health care database, which is aggregated by Solucient, Inc.
The report gauges how a companys health plan compared to similar companies. It identifies areas where claims deviated from normal experience so that the company can pursue cost-cutting and behavioral remedies that will work.
OnlineBenefits licenses a health care claims database from Solucient that contains over 20 million records derived primarily from major insurance companies. OnlineBenefits constructed the Claims Analysis Report to shape this data to be relevant to each employer analyzed. The process is called normalization." The report will first build a representative benchmark that matches the employers demographics. Then, its claims experience will be compared to that normalized data to yield results that are meaningful. Because the benchmarking pool is so large, the report draws from an excellent statistical sampling.
Using a simple online report questionnaire, employee benefits brokers will create reports for clients who have experience-rated or self-insured clients. The broker only needs to supply basic employee demographics and data from a readily available summary of claims experience. The finished report, which is delivered by e-mail within minutes of request, graphically charts the companys experience against the benchmark and offers suggestions to control areas of claims that are out of line with the benchmarks.
The Claims Analysis Report is exclusively available to the 350 benefit brokerage firms who partner with OnlineBenefits. For one licensing fee they may generate an unlimited number of reports, making it viable to perform claims analysis for their entire book of business.
Historically, claims benchmarking has been expensive and unwieldy, in part because it required detailed data records from insurance carriers," said Alan Cohen, CEO of OnlineBenefits. In every sense, we improved the process. The report results are relevant and actionable, the report is easy to create, results arrive within an hour rather than weeks, and it is far less expensive than existing methods of claims benchmarking."
