DOMESTIC TERRORISM, EXPLOITATION OF THE ELDERLY, VICTIMIZATION OF ALZHEIMER'S SUFFERERS, GENDER & RACIAL BIAS & GRANDPA-NAPPING IN "THE RENEGADE STATE" -- South Carolina defying "one nation under God."
Paradise Costs(c): South Carolina & the "good old boys" boycotted by the NAACP for displaying the Confederate flag allowed an elderly Alzheimer's victim to be exploited and grandpa-napped while the system allowed discrimination, racial and gender bias, domestic terrorism.
Irene A. Masiello discuses domestic terrorism, elder abuse in South Carolina "the renegade state" & her upcoming book PARADISE COSTSİ about Alzheimer's exploitation, discrimination against the disabled, elder abuse, gender bias, racism by "the good old boys" in SC as guest on WGBB-1240AM's talk radio show, Long Island, NY, June 15, 2004, 8-9PM.
Upcoming: WLIE,540AM talk radio in NY; interview-US AGAINST ABUSE radio interview regarding this subject.
Upcoming: international radio show-details to follow.
Masiello states the urgency of this matter precludes waiting for the promotion of her book (see WWW.ParadiseCosts.com) and urges travelers to "stay on Interstate 95 and avoid South Carolina, DO NOT: stop there, fill your gas tank, eat in restaurants, vacation there, purchase real estate or retire there and continue the NAACP's economic boycott of South Carolina and support America as one nation under God."
She further urges good people everywhere, especially in South Carolina, to: "end the war between the states and embrace the state of grace & boycott the state of hateİ" Masiello states it was the "good people in South Carolina who witnessed this travesty unfold" that urged her to take these issues to the public.
Discrimination, hate, denial of rights lives on through a large segment of the "good old boys" and their refusal to accept the laws of the land states Masiello, a columnist for the www.RawStory.com & HealthWise Magazine.
With her upcoming book, PARADISE COSTSİ, in progress detailing the various forms of denial psychologically, geographically, etc. facing Americans, Masiello states: "the Civil War rages on and remains a hidden and a dangerous chasm in our society. I cannot remain silent pending the publishing of my book when compelling social issues demand raising people's consciousness and empowering them with vital information that could save lives now. This is not just a North-South issue;
it is a social issue that extends beyond the South and to us as a society embracing healthy change, being informed and moving forward to one nation under God."
Masiello states: "America is a divided nation undoubtedly enmeshed in the continuation of a Civil War; we are grappling with hatred, strife, domestic terrorism, exploitation of the elderly and handicapped."
She urges Americans to remember: "a house divided against itself cannot stand" warning the 75 million baby-boomers facing retirement that South Carolina is not to be viewed as a safe place to relocate.
South Carolina was referred to by one of its own favorite sons, an attorney, whose family has resided in Goose Creek, in Berkley County, South Carolina, for over one-hundred years as: "a renegade state filled with corruption."
The NACCP along with professional sports (basketball and tennis) boycotted South Carolina when state officials refused to take down the Confederate flag from flying over the capitol, Columbia, a few years ago. Only when South Carolina officials feared economic sanctions did they remove the flag.
Masiello states: "the Confederate flag may be a swastika like symbol representing hatred, prejudice, discrimination and dangerous division in this country. Don't retire, vacation, move or visit South Carolina and assume you are still in the United States of America; you may be startled to find out that your rights are meaningless. Do not support hate-filled people no matter where they are." She urges boycotting hate and abuse no matter where it exists.
Masiello urges careful observation of those persons, websites, businesses, et al., displaying the Confederate flag and cautions that they MAY be viewed as potential threats to democracy, freedom, liberty, equal rights, embracing spiritual values, etc. She calls upon the American public, to telegraph those business, persons, states, etc. whose behavior is inappropriate to "the state of grace" and who display "what may be viewed as a symbol of hatred --the Confederate flag--to boycott and economically sanction anyone who displays that flag in any fashion."
Masiello also points out that "this an economic boycott ONLY and is not an invitation for violence. The Confederate flag or any other flag is not an invitation for anyone to take the law in their own hands; this is merely an economic sanction of those displaying a flag that may possibly indicate their continuation of a set of values that are against the principal of one nation under God and indulging in behaviors that are unsuitable to the highest ideals and principals of America."
She states: "I support the end of the Civil War and all wars, and embracing peace, equal protection under the law, freedom for all, the end of bias in any form, especially in lieu of the Supreme Court decision of June 14, 2004, that the America is, indeed, ONE nation under God."
She warns: "while I defend free speech and individual rights, flying the Confederate flag may risk being viewed as a threat of domestic terrorism, discrimination against other Americans from Northerners to the handicapped to women to Blacks and be boycotted."
Masiello stated that she can only speak to what she personally experienced in South Carolina, what she was told by South Carolina residents some of which are licensed professionals and is in no way and indictment of the South in general though reports recieving hate mail from many states other than SC.
Walterboro, South Carolina was home of the peep-holes in the walls of the local Holiday Inn, a national media story some years ago. Additionally, the death of a man became another national news issue when the then attorney general of SC defended the homeowner's rights to protect the sanctity of her home in Walterboro when she killed a HOME INVADER (CBS's 60 Minutes II) in a nationally broadcast show.
Masiello states her father's home was invaded in Walterboro by "good old boys" with the aid of their "dirty son of a bitch" attorney (stated by another South Carolina attorney) and the authorities looked the other way because the elder Masiello was a "Yankee."
When interlopers invaded the Walterboro (Colleton County seat) home of Masiello's father, a diagnosed Alzheimer's victim and exploited an elderly, vulnerable man resulting in his premature death neither SC attorneys, Colleton County Courts, SC officials, the current Attorney General of SC, the South Carolina Bar Association, the current governor or the SC Bar Association Bureau on Lawyer's Conduct answered her, intervened nor responded to these deplorable acts, her certified letters or hard core evidence.
Masiello's father had been a resident of SC for over 25 years yet was referred to as "the Yankee down the road." He was a well-documented Alzheimer's/dementia sufferer, was properly diagnosed and treated leaving behind extensive medical records and community awareness. However, he was exploited by his neighbors, et al., on Prices Bridge Lane in Walterboro (who flew the Confederate flag) even though they and the entire town were aware of very serious medical condition(s). However, they intruded into a private family matter and exploited the elderly, hanicapped, disabled and infirm Mario Masiello.
The current attorney general of South Carolina did not reply to a received, signed, receipted, certified letter sent by Masiello until after a 90-day wait. Yet, his office immediately dispatched a letter to her one day after TV stations in South Carolina were e-mailed her exclusive WWW.RAWSTORY.COM article titled "Grandpa-napping in South Carolina". The letter from his office stated that his office would notify the appropriate parties yet there has been no further response by any South Carolina agency or official.
Additionally, Masiello has a legal matter pending before a Colleton County Court re: this case as a pro se attorney and despite having written that court via certfied mail and sent two e-mails to the judge her case remains a mystery.
Goose Creek, South Carolina was recently the scene of a story that "didn't want to go away" when there was a police invasion of the town high school shown repeatedly by the national media. The police stormed the local high school and held horrified students on the floor at gunpoint while a shocked nation looked on.
Masiello armed with a diary of events and her father's medical records was without an attorney when no South Carolina attorney would take a blatant case of domestic terrorism, exploitation and elder abuse. Masiello's NY lawyer was barred from SC when no SC attorney would sponsor her. The judge did not advise Masiello of the legalities in the matter despite her not being able to retain an attorney.
While Masiello took her responsibilities to protect the community seriously and removed her father's car keys after he had a serious "at fault" car accident in which he rear-ended another driver in front of the town elementary school the town, the town officials and the system ignored her and the elder Masiello's physicians pleas. She avoided her father being involved in an accident like the one that occurred in California when an elderly man killed 8 in the Farmer's Market.
She states her family paid dearly for her decision to do the right thing in that they have been violated, robbed, cheated and abused by South Carolina and Walterboro's apathy and prejudice.
The Alzheimer's Association in Columbia, SC had referred Masiello to attorneys specializing in elder care issues. Both attorneys refused the case as did approximately one hundred others. One of the attorneys the Alzheimer's Association recommended in Summerville, SC, while refusing the case, urged Masiello to go to the media and make this matter public. Colleton County South Carolina social workers did likewise.
Masiello turned to a NYC attorney who was an officer in the National Academy of Elder Lawyers who is also a columnist for the NYC magazine she contributes to. He referred her to an attorney also belonging to the national organization in Mt. Pleasant, SC, who declined the case. The Alzheimer's Association, as well, had also referred Masiello to this same attorney.
One SC attorney (a non-native) advised Masiello not to give the senior partner of that firm a retainer stating before Masiello and another witness that she "would never attain justice in SC because [Masiello] was a northerner and the senior attorney was a good old boy who would do nothing but take [her] money."
Masiello cautions northerners: "don't be seduced by the lower costs of living and more bang for your real estate buck in South Carolina. It may appear to be paradise with it's 'smiling faces and beautiful places' logo when, in fact, you are on enemy ground. For the most part, South Carolina is a bigoted and ignorant state where racism, prejudice, exploitation, civil rights violations and corruption run rampant. PARADISE COSTSİ big time; it always does. Are you ready to be denied essential services when you need them?"
Masiello states that a conspiracy to defraud her family was perpetuated by Walterboro (Colleton County seat) residents with the help of a corrupt system that may have involved judges, lawyers, state officials, etc. Even after Masiello backed her claims with official records she was ignored. Her family was scammed out of its legacy while an impotent system looked on.
However, a Colleton county social worker stated: "every time I leave my father with his aide I think about [Masiello] and [her] family and the travesty that has befallen you. You must take this matter to the public."
While commonly acknowledged, i.e., "the Civil War is still being fought," the real life issues brought about by this kind of hate, discrimination and bigotry has devastating
effects on Northerners who move South to escape to "paradise." She stresses that this is not a joking matter and has life and death ramifications. Masiello states that a prestigious New York physician experienced the same results she did stating the "good old boys" scammed him in a real estate swindle.
She states: "my brother, Martin M. Masiello, Jr., at the age of 19, entered a crashed and burning USAF plane in Viet Nam in 1969 as a member of the 82nd Airborne. He rescued 5 crewmen and was awarded the Bronze Star, the Soldier's Medal for Valor and the Air Force Service Cross for heroism above and beyond the call of duty. He died in 1986 as a result of service related illness and he is buried in Walterboro, South Carolina. The hatred and exploitation of the 'good old boys' right here in America have made sure that his family has been exploited and lost their legacy and that ignorant, greedy, treacherous interlopers now own the ground my brother is buried in. Remember, PARADISE COSTSİ and my family has paid the price in Viet Nam and in South Carolina."
Masiello urges "law abiding, civilized, God-fearing, peace loving Americans, et al of good conscientious who believe that America is "one nation under God" to telegraph South Carolina and any other state (or business) in the union that "behavior that is un-American will incur the wrath of the UNITED States." She has called for a boycott of anyone displaying the Confederate flag and indulging in prejudice against any group.
